Given ~6% of new car sales in the US are electric, I'd say a non zero amount of people. And since it's up from 2% 2 years ago, it seems to be increasing. Within California, it's something like 17-18% of new car sales. Globally, 13% of new car sales.
$7 dollar a gallon will do that and that's by design. If they didn't increase the price of gas that much I'd still be driving my ml350. I had a volt and the monthly plus electric costs was cheaper than paying for gas at the time. Once gas drops back down people will be back into their V8 SUVs. I met a nice couple during lunch that just got their XL hybrid. I complimented them on their truck and they told me they loved their truck because they are getting great gas mileage even though they paid $6k ADM 🤦‍♂️. I got my wife the EUV at MSRP she loves it because it is small enough to fit everywhere but big enough to hold 2 giant car seats in the back. I'll play the game so far I feel like I'm ahead but I miss the engine sounds of a beefy V8.

And in Norway (special case of course) 75% plus of new cars are pure electric.

The EUV seems pretty sweet, if they can make it with faster charging I'd give it a strong consider over the Maverick. Which is why the Equinox will be in the running if a Maverick takes long enough.

Not interested in a truck that might go 100+ miles, then has to be charged for who knows how many hours. Useless too me. Hybrids make sense. Unless you just want a commuter vehicle, EV's do not.

I genuinely wish VW success. But I'm dubious. VW has botched the US market for the last 30+ years. They are huge worldwide, but they are generally perceived as an ongoing sales failure in the USA. Nobody says their vehicles are bad, just that they are not sales successes to a scope that reflects VW's gargantuan market share elsewhere.
My memory isn't what it used to be, but I could swear I saw a lot more Volkswagens on the road back in the 90s than I've been seeing in the past 20 years.

I've had the feeling after the 90s that VW was just dabbling in the US market, kind of half heartedly. I don't have any facts to back that up, just an impression that they're not designing their vehicles for us. Maybe the Scout is an attempt to change that? Although if this is going to be another good looking vehicle with cool features but an enormous price tag, then I'll be watching from the sidelines.

This is a forum about the maverick NOT some EV you may want. hybrids and EV are not close to the same thing. Should I bring up the topic of how to fix my homes roof next?

Ahh the old false equivalency argument. This is a thread started by the Admin of our forum to promote a new sister forum. Given that the audience here is interested in small, efficient pick-ups, it seems a pretty appropriate place to start to gather membership.

The fun part is, if you want to talk about roof repair here, there's a place for that in the "Off Topic" section. Have at it!

It's in the maverick vs the competition section of the forum, so it is very much on topic despite your opinions on EVs

Wasn't that when they had the ad campaign "we are looking for DRIVERS?" The implication being that you had to be a top notch "driver" to be able to handle their cars. Seemed like every wannabe street racer had a VW and drove with predictable arrogance and carelessness. My wife and I even had a contest for a while: whenever we saw someone do something stupid (drive too fast, run a red light, tail gate, pass on the right, weave through traffic, etc) would check if it was a VW. I think if I remember right the total was something like 65% VW's and 35% all other makes.

They aren't showing much. I'm thinking electric Bronco-ish? But not something I have any need for and likely too expensive for me. But that's OK, I want an EV Maverick and the only way we get there is for other (more expensive) vehicles to pave the way. I'll wait.

Yeah, I seem to recall an advertising campaign where they were calling themselves “V-Dub” and trying to appeal to the tuner crowd.
