My poor Maverick was rear-ended at a stoplight a couple weeks ago. My daughter was pretty shaken up, but we're fine.

Almost $22,000 in damage! Seems wild that it's totaled. I really enjoyed this truck and I'm not looking forward to vehicle shopping again. 😥

Just here to commiserate.

Glad no one was injured, it's never fun being in a accident. Sounds like a good time to upgrade to a 2025 AWD.

Paint and crumble zones.

My beautiful 1997 Eldorado Touring Coupe got clipped in traffic, and they called it totaled not over the damage itself, but for the cost of painting two panels with White Diamond tricoat!

but it should (finally) be back on the road in a week or two.

I'd love to, but its going to cost me about 6K more for a similar spec MAV. The luxury package and pilot 360 are requirements for the 4k tow and FX4 package (according to the build & price website). :headbang:

I absolutely love that generation Eldorado. Such a beautiful and underrated vehicle.

Those are the two options I have and was shocked when MY 2025 was introduced. 4-6K more expensive (depending on model year) from being forced into the lux and 360 packages...sad.

After all, off-roaders should be required to have all the luxury goodies.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

I would ask the insurance company to please send me a check for twenty two thousand dollars and can I keep driving the truck??

Sorry this happened. It's amazing how little damage it takes to total these things.
The insurance company will get a lot for the salvage, their net cost will be less totaling it rather than fixing and providing rental, etc

They buy the truck and I think they sell it for scrap. You would have to by it back from the scrap yard I think.

That is tempting. But what if I get hit again? is the safety of the vehicle compromised? If it was just me and the vehicle was already paid off......I might go that route.

I'm still waiting to see what the payout will be. Hopefully it's a fair number.

It's the salvage bids that total vehicles like this. Because the maverick holds it's value so good the insurance company gets high bids, they figure why take a chance on the shop calling them back for more money when the job starts. I was a damage appraiser for a while and have totaled vehicles at 50 0/0 because the salvage bids were so high and didn't trust the shop doing the repairs.

Then you get a salvage title, good luck trying to sell it with a salvage title.
