We’ll guys, it happened

Someone ran into me while at a light and shop finally took it in to get it looked at. Went from “we can fix it but it’ll take a month for parts“ to “looks like the frame rails are bent and might need to total it.

The car that hit me must of went under the bumper and hit the frame as the bumper itself is not that bad. I told the shop I thought it would be a quick and easy fix, but looks like that’s not the case.

I’ve seen now 5 of these In what, the last2 months? Makes me wonder if insurance on these will go up given just how easy it is to total.

update; insurance indeed totaled out the truck. Seems the hitch caused most of the force to be transfer to the frame. Never saw it coming to be honest.

I once saw a Fiat “POP” like that on Copart. The color listed was “BURNT”

They claimed “I was just looking down and it happened” they made sure to tell police “I wasn’t using my phone or anything bad like that” like yeah ok.

If your insurance winds up paying they will obtain his phone records and compare to time of impact logged to Ford and if his phone was in use will collect their money from his insurance company or sue him for any difference above their cost.

Yep, with the frame rail crumpled like that its totaled. On the bright side it is becoming a lot easier to find replacements now.

Yea funny thing is that his insurance came back with a preliminary estimate that is can all be fixed for $10k. They the rail can be replaced. I doubt that. I’ll see what the shop says in Monday.

Replace frame rail??
Maybe pull it out. Some shops do frame work.
But yes keep us posted OP.

How would you pullout a rail like that??
It is boron steel, you can not heat it.
I don't even know if it can be welded.

Right, Apparently a shop by me has the machines to straighten frames and rails and the works. I had wanted to total one of my cars out but nope they handled it. Of course once hit I didn’t want the car anymore even though the repairs made it look mint after.
