here's one that pretty much tells you everything you need to know about the oil itself.

regarding the filter, both Maverick engines use a very small capacity filter. that's the real reason you should consider shorter than 10k change intervals with full synthetic.
From what I understand you can get a larger oil filter.

Even this video of a straightforward side by side test had people doubting synthetic oil and it's superiority.
They found problems with it because it did not fit their narrative.

One of the things I read in the comments from a detractor was.
They didn't have real people driving in real outside conditions.
Let's disregard the fact that they actually started and stopped the engines ran them at different RPMs, different temperatures,.
The results did not fit the narrative of the detractors. Yet if the test had used real people driving outside on city streets and it still came up with the same results. Then they would say well, there were different conditions. Different people drive differently. Example, Driver one accelerated from the stops light 3 milliseconds faster than Driver 2.
yeah, there's 'interesting' comments on the YT video...

I am sure 500k miles on the rollers is easier than 500k in real life for the whole vehicle - no question - but for only the engine it's probably not a lot different, based on what I saw in that video and how they vary the load on the rollers. plus, these 2 engines were treated equally, which is the point in the full synthetic test / demonstration.

They ran the vehicles at different speeds including putting loads on them. They did not run the vehicles constantly they did shut them down let them cool down overnight.
I'm at a loss how else would you be able to design a test that would be totally equal with two different drivers in real world situation?

In reality who do you really think is going to run their Ford Maverick 500,000 miles?

that's not at all what I said or intended to say. yes, of course I realize that. I linked it to provide it as a good example of why to use full synthetic.

their test was very good. I'm not sure if valvoline sells ATF or gear oil, but that would have been interesting to compare also.

Sorry about that I apologize 🙄 my mistake.

I believe, the hybrid e-cvt transmission has mercon XT-12-QULV ??
Verification needed
I found this interesting.
Ford transmission fluid can be either synthetic or conventional, depending on the type of fluid and the vehicle:

Mercon V: A synthetic fluid that Ford labels as Mercon V. If the vehicle's manual calls for Mercon V, it's asking for the synthetic fluid.
Mercon without the V: A regular Dexron III/Mercon fluid.
ULV ATF: A full-synthetic, ultra-low viscosity transmission fluid that's recommended for Ford/GM 10R80 and select Ford F-150 and Raptor trucks.
Ford Genuine Ford Fluid XT-M5-QS: A full synthetic manual transmission fluid.

Oil change? Just drive it till it throws a rod, stop being suckers and buying so much oil, if I did as many oil changes as some of you I could buy another engine. 😛 🤣

I'm a every 5k miles guy. Why? Better question, why on earth should we trust some algorithm to tell when the oil needs to be changed (oil life indicator)? Considering this algorithm comes from the same company that needs multiple software updates to get turn signals and brake lights working properly, I think not. 🤣
Is that 5k of ICE miles or 5K total? That's the kind of thing that dumb little algorithm can keep track of.

🤔 Damn.
Do I have to install a Hobbs meter now? And figure actual engine run time vs miles traveled? 😁
Here we go......
Does the hybrid Maverick show
Engine run time ?
OR
Ignition on time ?

It's so bizarre to me how people make oil so complicated now.

Are there cults for other lubricants, like diff oil, transmission fluid, and lithium grease?
Hate to ask - what do you put on your door seals and how often!

Motor oil is one subject that everyone has an opinion on...me included.

Some of you may have visited the site BITOG..
BOB IS THE OIL GUY. Man if you want misinformation and non fact based opinion that joint is fir you.

If you want REAL oil info from a guy that actually formulated oils in the real world visit Lake Speed Jr's. "motoroilgeek" YouTube page.

I attended one of Speed's oil seminars about 10 years ago when he worked for Driven oil. Learned a bunch... no sales pitches's only facts.

A stand up guy...yes he IS a geek!

Watch and learn...

The biggest factor I have learned is we need to be concerned with is having oil shear kill our engines. All these chains, sprokets and gears in the valve train destroy the additive packages that keep our oils in spec.

I grew up learning that oil doesn't wear out...but the additive package does.

You will have to pack a lunch, sit down with your internet device and watch these videos several times to really absorb what is being presented.

My last Peterbilt with a CAT 3406E engine went 1,918,000 miles before it's first rebuild. I always used a viscosity index improver additive to the oil as matter or habit. Now I think I know why that engine lasted so long.

Enjoy the info...
For most, spending time researching oil is a waste of time, - in modern engines with simple changes using any decent synthetic at 10k your engine should outlast the body rust, transmission (depending on vehicle), infotainment Sys, EGR and other emissions, maybe the computer. I am junking a 2006 van due to multiple issues that fixing exceeds the value yet engine runs fine, same w a 2005 Dakota where pcm wiring faults seem to be the downfall . Both less than 200k, both run fine, both would have been kept a while longer, and with both oil is my last concern.

I've used silicone spray, but I can't remember the last time I did it.
I've used silicone for years to keep the seals and window tracks pliable and slick, first in spray form but now in a thicker liquid from a bottle, using a rag to apply, so I don't have over spray on the glass, headliner, etc.

I'm driving a 23-year-old Crown Vic that I haven't treated in years and the seals are still fine.
