I Hate the Stupid Dial Shifter: Now With Poll

Maybe we can go back to the push button transmission like on my '63 Dodge Dart wagon.

My 2019 Lincoln MKZ has push buttons on the dash. When I first got it I would reach for the console shifter but now I like it on the dash and the extra console storage I get without it taking up room on the console. The round shifter was easy to get use too and I can usually shift without looking. So far no accidental shifts.

Nice car but those pushbutton controls look like they belong on a Waring blender from the 1960s.

They should have dual purposed them and put the blender in the console, but they do work great as a shifter.

Check the verdict. It's not the same for us poor non famous folks. We wouldn't even make it to a trial let alone have "involuntary manslaughter" completely dismissed.

I just noticed that even the seatbelt warning graphic doesn't like the dial shifter.

The infinity spin is most of the problem, it should have positive stops, and more of a click for each position.

I am not a fan of the dial myself, I agree with you on there is no detent or even a click. I know there is an indicator on the dash but my old school mind wants to look down at the shifter. I guess I am just a relic and most of my vehicles are old like I am. LOL. 76 & 73 MGB's 72 El Camino and 65 Mustang. My 90 Mustang has automatic a shifter as well.

Ditto times one hundred. I wonder if Ford will take these complaints to heart and scrap the dial shifter for good!

Our 2015!300C and our sons Fusion Sport had/have stops. I got used to the 300’s without too much drama . As for the Maverick’s, it’s hard to twist something so far you damage it if there’s no stop.
At this point, if it saves money and I believe it’s a lot over a shifter, Ford will never go back.
I don’t care for it but be prepared, next will be the gear selection on your touchscreen.
Might make some miss the dial.
