Is extended warranty warranted?

I have a 2023 EB 16 months old with 6200 miles but sold another car we owned so plan to drive this about 10-12k per year going forward. I also have ford pass points expiring soon so thinking about putting the points towards extended warranty. Truck has beeen perfect so far.

Has anyone with a Ford been using the extended warranty? Is it worth it? On the flipside, did anyone buy it and regret it as they didn't get anything out of it.

The standard powertrain is 60K/5yrs so I was thinking about 8 yr and 75K basecare option but seems steep for the extra few years at about 1K with $50 deductible.

I am pretty competent working on cars and mainly have avoided warranties thus far in life. Maybe I just stop at the dealer and buy that expensive Morotcraft gear oil using my points since everyone says the gearbox is underfilled and some nice hats. Not really any accessories I would use but hate to let the points expire.

I’m torn as well.
I’m coming from a Lexus and don’t trust Ford to build a quality vehicle, but that might be a personal bias I need to get over.

As for extended warranties it’s usually not warranted, but the good thing is you have a few years to wait and see how well Mavs hold up and you can decide later.

I have gotten the extended warranties on the last five cars my wife and I have purchased this includes the Maverick. On one car we used it and the repairs were several hundred more than the warranty cost. That was a Honda. The others were Toyotas. Two we never needed the warranty fixes and the third Toyota we still have five years on the warranty. So good to July 2029. But so far nothing. The Maverick I have only had for a little over a month. I got the ten year 100k bumper to bumper no deductible plan. But my wife works for the corporate office of the dealerships so we get it cheaper than most. That's a big part of why I do it.

For me it's cheap insurance knowing I have ten years without having to worry about something failing. And since it's the comprehensive it covers everything except brakes, tire wear, the usual.

I too, have been considering purchasing the extended warranty. I need to do some research on the different plans, but I definitely want the engine, drivetrain and electronics covered. I've had 2 recalls so far and I go to the dealership on Thursday (3rd trip for same problem) to get a new actuator for the turbo wastegate position sensor fault message I've been getting since July. On Friday, the service engine light mysteriously turned off and FordPass shows no faults. Go figure. Anyway, my point is that this truck is prone to glitches and I don't want to end up getting stuck with a huge repair bill. I'll either trade it for something else or extend the warranty. It really is a good truck and I enjoy owning it very much.

• A few Ford techs recommended the premium care level and felt that was the only one worth it
• I viewed it as insurance for big items and as such looked at the $200 deductible option
• The 5/60 and 10/100 were the “best value” by $/mile coverage so I focused on those
• I ended up doing the 10/100 even though I won’t drive that much because of resale-ability (it’s transferable)
• I used my Ford points and it it came to $11/month over 10 years. I felt that was a very small price to pay to not have to worry about major repairs for the next decade and 100,000 miles

The price is not much when done thru Granger and the experience was painless.

Given the trucks have had some issues the first three years, and they're an entry-level vehicle based on price and some of the parts used, I went with a $100 deductible PremiumCare plan that aligns with the 8 year/100k hybrid warranty. This way all major powertrain, electronics, etc. are covered for the same amount of time that Ford will warranty the hybrid components. For me, I plan to hang onto the vehicle for that full term, and the 18 mos. no interest financing offered through Ford via Budco on a plan that's almost at cost from Granger was a no-brainer. Less than $300 down and $60/mo for 18 mos was worth it for me re: peace of mind. I drive 65 miles a day and don't want to risk it.

We tend to keep our vehicles a while. Our other vehicle has been ours for eleven years, and the vehicle the Maverick was owned for seven. The extended warranty made sense for us, and the fact that it's a first generation vehicle only made it feel more right to us.

It is a total gamble. Obviously the numbers are not in your favor otherwise manufacturers would not offer it if it did not generate revenue for the bottom line.

However if you DO have an issue with your vehicle, which is likely with a Ford - having the Premium Care warranty pays for itself and then some, including a rental vehicle.

The other thing is your Premium Care extended warranty is transferrable one-time, and also the balance of the warranty is refundable at anytime (pro-rated on time and/or miles).

I had one on my Tremor and I will have one on my MavBrid - for peace of mind - even knowing that I might not get the better of the deal in the end.

I bought one on my 1st Silverado Z71 I bought in 2000 new, and I never used it nor needed it I've never purchased another one with any other new vehicles I've bought. Thankfully I've never had issues with transfer cases or transmissions are motors the little I did over the years we're all covered by the bumper to bumper warranty.

I've had 11 new vehicles since that and have maintain them myself oil changes transmission fluid changes, without issue.


In my opinion there are waste of money unless you buy a four-wheel driver all wheel drive vehicle and don't maintain it properly.

You've had 11 new vehicles in 24 years, which is an average of two years per vehicle.

Of course, buying an extended warranty on vehicles you don't keep for 10+ years and are still under their factory warranty when you ditch them doesn't make any sense and you'll never hear an argument otherwise.

That's between the 2 of us, my wife & I. We still have our 2014 Chevy equinox bought new in 2014, issue free other than normal wear and tear 227k miles and going. Her Saab 9-2x went for 10 yrs 267k miles before dieing. I use to geat a new vehicle every 6 years 130k, some were replaced after 3 yrs 70k miles though.

That was when I was younger and dumber with my money. But, your 20s will do that to yah.

My parents gave me their old Volvo wagon in 2003, when I was 22 (ouch!) and I drove it as my primary car until late last year when I got the Maverick. For some reason I never liked spending money on cars, even when younger, I was more interested in investing and buying a home.

Yup, my 1st car was my parent ford aerostar minivan, hated it. Traded it for a 96 Camaro, paid cash. Bought my 1st new car in 99 a S10 reg cab with sport wheels. Traded it 1 yr later for a 2000 silverado Z71 ext cab lt, built a new home in 2002. Sold the 00 z71 bought a 03 Silverado z71 lt, soldthe03 for a 07 hummer h3. Sold the Hummer in 2012, bought a 2012 f150 XLT crew 4x4. Sold the 12 xlt bought a 16 xlt f150 4x4 sport. The 16 f150 eb died at 276k miles this summer, bought my maverick.

My wifes had her 4 cars since we've met, a 03 olds alero, sold for a 05 Saab 9-2x, drove it till it died. Bought a 14 Chevy equinox still going strong. Weekend vehicle is a 19 Explorer limited.

I've done a lot better investing since 30 yrs old, then in my late teens and 20s. If ford still makes them in 9 yrswhen I retire a raptor r will be in the garage.
