I am thinking about getting an extended warranty for my Maverick and wanted some opinions as if I should go ahead and get it or not.

I’d check with granger. Official ford warranty. I went with 10 yr 100k 0 deductible with the lighting rider. Too much high tech stuff and nothing that can be fixed under the shade tree.

Not much I can add except...if you buy the extended warranty from the dealer the cost is negotiable. Whatever price they offer you, try to get it lower.

At least this was true when I bought my Toyota.

If you buy the warranty and make it to the end of the extended warranty period and didn't put in a single claim, would you see it as money well spent? In effect you'd be paying maybe up to 5% more for the vehicle.

On the flipside, if you don't buy the warranty and need back-to-back repairs totaling the cost of the extended warranty, could you cover that in cash and not feel ripped off or that you need to dump the vehicle?

Statistically, extended warranties pay out less than they collect in revenue. Otherwise they wouldn't be offered. But it's sorta like fire insurance. You'd rather split the risk of 10,000 people's houses burning down and pay a small fee than carry 100% of the risk of your house burning down.

I have a foot in both camps. I have an extended warranty on my current vehicle, but:
  1. the clock started when I bought the warranty and not the vehicle's original purchase date. It basically has bumper-to-bumper coverage well into the 6-digit mileage.
  2. the cost equated to less than 2% of the MSRP. I saved more than that by registering the vehicle in a county with lower sales tax when I bought it. f I need a covered repair, great. If not, at least it went to something useful.
  3. I don't plan on making any modifications that could cause warranty complications. Suspension is all stock, powertrain is all stock, electrical is all stock except for an APU that only touches the battery and can be disconnected in one second.
So I guess for me it'd come down to cost. If I can get the warranty for a good enough price, why not. If the warranty was like, 10% of the MSRP, I'd rather just self-insure. I have a budget item for vehicle maintenance and repairs that gets rolled into a "vehicle capital fund" when the vehicle is paid off. So basically, after it's paid off, the monthly payment gets put into the vehicle capital fund that covers more expensive repairs and maintenance as the vehicle ages and also serves as the down payment bucket for my next vehicle.

Don't even bother with going to them for an ESP, Get one from Granger Ford. No dealer sells one for less. Remember, all warranties, start on the day the truck was first registered, so the first 3 years were covered by Ford. A 10 year policy gets you covered for the next 7 years.

I got mine from Granger for my 24. Cost was $2400 with rental and lighting for 10Yr. 100,000.
That is $240.00 a year. I pay way more than that for car insurance that I may never use.

Ok, that's good to know. So paying for 10 years but only get 7 years coverage.

Earlier discussions on extended warranty led me to purchasing the 10/100 program also. But you are correct, it is really only 7 months, 64K miles more than factory warranty. Still worth it if you plan on keeping Maverick for a while.

Granger doesn't do California. Anyone know who has the best rates in CA?

All extended warranty’s have “Exclusions”. Even the “everything is covered” premium platinum level.
Mine excludes welds, headlights, glass, and a few other items that did not worry me.

Always helpful to read the page or two of small print of the extended warranty exclusions so you’re not surprised down the road.

I bought an extended warranty for the electronics and all the accessories & motors that drive them. Power Train Warranty covers the other big stuff.

Also, a large part of our complex fuel delivery systems fall in the crack between the Power Train and ECO warranties. A good extended warranty should cover that - but check.

I got mine from Granger also. I know they don't sell it to people in Florida. My son got it for me.
He lives in Pa.
