They don't sell them because it makes you money.

That said, if the potential expense is too much a risk, go for it. We probably should've all bought 10 year old Civics anyway.

I won't buy a new vehicle without one. But I wait until year 3 to finalize the decision. I don't mind paying a little extra to do so either.

That said, current factory warranties are a joke. 3 years is barely enough to beta test a vehicle and every. single. manufacturer. is having quality control issues now days. From one model to the next. Cars might last longer overall, but that doesn't mean they are built to do it. It's just pure coincidence due to modern engineering. These manufacturers are not planning on pushing our vehicles to 200k. They lose money that way.

Anyways... If you plan on keeping it, you will want the warranty. Every time this subject comes up I weigh in because I used to be vocal about NOT getting warranties and DIYing most the stuff. But you can't just drop the valve body from the tranny anymore... most are even closed systems entirely. They don't put grease zerks on parts either. Etc etc... They are not building these things to last they are building them to be cheap to dispose of and recycle on their end.

Yep basically once the first big repair hits, people trade in/dump the car (with limited residual value) and buy a new one.

I have a 2023 EB 16 months old with 6200 miles but sold another car we owned so plan to drive this about 10-12k per year going forward. I also have ford pass points expiring soon so thinking about putting the points towards extended warranty. Truck has beeen perfect so far.

Has anyone with a Ford been using the extended warranty? Is it worth it? On the flipside, did anyone buy it and regret it as they didn't get anything out of it.

The standard powertrain is 60K/5yrs so I was thinking about 8 yr and 75K basecare option but seems steep for the extra few years at about 1K with $50 deductible.

I am pretty competent working on cars and mainly have avoided warranties thus far in life. Maybe I just stop at the dealer and buy that expensive Morotcraft gear oil using my points since everyone says the gearbox is underfilled and some nice hats. Not really any accessories I would use but hate to let the points expire.
I myself was torn. I do not buy extended warranties ever. It's my thing- they are usually a rip-off that just pads the pockets of the company and dealer. However, After I placed my order, I heard all the horror stories about "work arounds" for parts shortages (plywood rounds for suspension spacers, etc.). I never owned a new vehicle before, let alone a brand new model, so when I took delivery of my '23 XLY Hybris, I let the guy talk me into $3K for an extended warrantee. Now, 30K miles and 18 months later, it was probably not needed. It occurs to me now that, while the truck we brand new, the 2.5L Atkinson Cyle engine has been around for a while. In the end, in spite of the cost increase between the '22 I ordered and the '23 I took delivery on, I still got a 45mpg+ truck for less than $30K out the door that is still worth almost as much as I paid new. The sales manager keeps asking me if I want to sell it back.

Good luck!

I never buy extended warranties. I bought one for the Maverick.

  • A few Ford techs recommended the premium care level and felt that was the only one worth it
  • I viewed it as insurance for big items and as such looked at the $200 deductible option
  • The 5/60 and 10/100 were the “best value” by $/mile coverage so I focused on those
  • I ended up doing the 10/100 even though I won’t drive that much because of resale-ability (it’s transferable)
  • I used my Ford points and it it came to $11/month over 10 years. I felt that was a very small price to pay to not have to worry about major repairs for the next decade and 100,000 miles
The price is not much when done thru Granger and the experience was painless.
Thank you so much for those words and your support!

Quick math tells me that by the 36 month mark you will have only about 15k miles.

That isn't much. However, I judge my vehicles by issues that occur during and under the initial warranty. I think nowadays electronics are the biggest area for problems. The drivetrains have extended warranties.

I am not a fan of X warranties, however I would wait until closer to the 3/36 bumper to bumper expires, then look at a Grainger warranty.

If a vehicle is problematic, I just sell it. I hate dealing with dealers and all the fuckery they throw at you.

Do what you think is right, but most professionals in money management discourage extended service plans. I have been driving for 50 years and have never purchased one, with no regrets. Hopefully our maverick will not change that.

Take money you would spend on extended warranty and put in short term 5% cd . save for repairs if necessary . Use fordpass points for something that would help you utilize the Mav .

Are you sure the standard warranty is 60K/5yrs? I have a hybrid, so mine is different. Either way, the rest of the truck is only bumper to bumper for 3 yrs, or 36K I'm sure the ICE engine and trans will have no problems for the 5/60K span. It's the electronics I worry about. Check with Granger for a price on an extended warranty, and use your points there. They will accept them.

I never buy extended warranty's because I only keep a vehicle for 3/4 years and have very low miles because I had a company vehicle, I liked having a weekend vehicle always a truck. I did buy a extended warranty at granger about $1500 because am retired now and figured I would keep it a long time. If you're the type of person that keeps a vehicle a long time you're going to use that warranty, bet the ranch on it, the 2.0 engine and tranny have been around a while now BUT all the other parts haven't and something is going to fail, if you're paying HALF at granger I think you would be foolish not to get it, if you have points you can use them. My dealer wanted 3200 for the extended I think I got the 8/85000 plus rental, lights, and keys for half that.. don't forget the cost goes UP the longer you wait and the more miles on vehicle. sooner the better save a lot. Am looking at the improvements on the 25 model and if I order one my 22 XLT lux will be sold and that 1500 did me no good.
It's a tossup, we'll see.

I have never purchased an extended warranty but I did with the Maverick since I was purchasing a new model and expect to use it.

As with others I went with @Granger Ford . It was a couple of emails and it appeared in my Ford app a day or two later.
I am glad the process was efficient! Thank you for your support!

I'm no mechanic and have bought extended warranties on both my 2019 Buick Encore and now my 2023 Maverick. So far, I've already used up over half the Buicks warranty. I prefer the peace of mind AND knowing I'm paying for potential tomorrow's repairs in today's dollars. Just my opinion.

Granger Extended Warranty is up more than $400 over a couple months ago (on the plan I was looking at). Might be closer to $500 more, not sure but nearly 20-25% higher

:/

I like the simple way you pointed out the cost over life of the warranty, good way to look at it. We pay way more on fuel, insurance, plates, etc.
