Toyota has the best idea and thought process which is 1:6:90. For the raw materials needed to produce 1 long range full electric they can produce 90 battery hybrids or 6 plug in hybrids. Toyota can’t make enough battery hybrids because of demand. Ford and GM are losings billions of dollars on EV’s. The Lightning had huge demand because it was going to be $49,999, that lasted about as long as the Maverick was $19,999.

Slingshot didn’t didn’t say market share. He said sales. Sales are up. Market share is up too.

"Record 1.2 Million EVs Were Sold in the U.S. in 2023"
https://www.coxautoinc.com/market-insights/q4-2023-ev-sales/

The BOA link in your post blames the same problem that I mentioned earlier. Lack of affordable electric vehicles.

BOA also says electric was 7.5% of sales in 2023, and they expect it to be “8% of vehicle sales in 2024, 14% in 2027 and 29% in 2030.” I’m having a hard time understanding how those numbers are the often cited as “tanking.”

About rural, of course they are less likely to be a good fit there. But the very large majority of people live in cities and suburbs.
100% . The people saying their sales are tanking are the ones who want them to tank. Billy Bob who lives in a county with 5 people, where the grid hasn't been updated since FDR, says nobody wants them because the 4 people they know don't.
It's bizarre that people who live in rural areas say nobody wants EVs " just city folks and suburbanites"- ya that's 90% of the population .
EV sales will be a higher percentage of the market in 2024 than 2023 and ICEV sales will be a lower percentage. Doesn't mean I hate ICEVS or think EVs are perfect for everyone but I understand basic math

I would be happy with an EV Maverick or similar with 100 mile range. That would get me to work and back home twice without needing a charge.

I would rather rent a car for a long trip anyway and put the miles on somebody else's car.

I always enjoy threads like this. The pros and cons of EVs are always discussed by arm chair enthusiasts who haven't even driven one let alone owned one. They let the media drive their biases.
lol or we do research. I generally don't buy shit I don't need or like just to prove I was right to dislike it.

Nope why would they alienate half the sales. I just wouldn’t buy one. I like some I like my vehicles to have some feeling or some aspect of them I really like for pure driver satisfaction.
None of that happens with the hybrid. It does with the ecoboost. I’d be much more tempted to go plug in electric for my around town than a hybrid. They just lack soul. Well and lots of power compare to the ecoboost.
Driver satisfaction with turbo lag and an automatic? Nope. Give me naturally aspirated and a manual. Autos are for dudes who pee seated.. but seriously a battery providing extra torque is better in many cases then a turbo so not sure why a higher power ICE with a battery and more powerful electric motor would provide less fun than a slushbox with turbo lag.

Yeah I'm sure you have done your research............Just out of curiosity how many EVs have you driven or owned?

I like having options, my preference would be a PHEV Maverick. If it had around 50 miles of electric on a full charge and the ICE for those times I need extra range it would be perfect. Of course the downside is while you get the best of both worlds... you also get the worst.

this is a really weak argument trying to justify ignoring facts and opinions that don't match your own preferences.

I've also never owned a quad level home, yet oddly enough I can have many reasons to not buy one. or a pool. or a ski boat.

there is no end to the examples I can give as to just how ridiculous and lazy your argument is, and I haven't even talked about EVs yet because we have actually heard it all before.

I think the problem is that electrics are over luxuried and over priced.

With no ICE, single modest electric motor, and modest battery size, they should be cheap. I don’t want a $60,000+ vehicle, EV or not.

Give me a $25,000 electric Maverick. I don’t care if the range is only a couple of hundred miles. It won’t be for everyone. But for those of us that can recharge at home, and seldom take long trips, it would be perfect.
Even a couple hundred miles of range is going to be expensive. To be $25k, it would probably have to be in the 80-100 mile range category. The battery on the F150 alone is around $50k according to Ford.

Ford is losing their shirts on EVs because their battery prices are so high compared to Tesla etc.

I think we will see the ecoboost dropped eventually from the Maverick and it will be only hybrid. I'm actually surprised they didn't drop it for the refresh now that the hybrid has AWD and the 4k tow package.
Guessing it may happen but they're watching how the hybrid AWD does for the next couple years. Really, it's kinda a no-brainer at this point. Same tow rating, double the MPGs (city) and about 20% more MPG on the highway.

Ford could really streamline production as well with a single engine/transmission choice.

yes and no. it'll be an ecoboost with hybrid, probably the Nautilus drivetrain or a lower hp version.
One thing I love about the hybrid is the simplicity of the ICE, it's just their standard 2.5l non-turbo'd motor they've been making for decades. A turbo on there with the ecoboost DI issues and that further complicates (and reduces MPG) the vehicle.

Had they dropped the ecoboost, i wouldn't have bought one.

That's basically what this new EV truck will be, something barebones, but cheap, especially for an ev. The range will most likely be in the 200s.

My inside sources tell me it's a compact truck like the maverick, but may not be identical to the maverick in looks, and won't share the c2 platforming, using CE1 instead, which is basically Ford's C2 of EV platforms in size, price point, and flexibility.
Yep… And I’m guessing the first two configurations of the low cost CE1 platform will be a small pickup and a small van, both of which will be very successful in the commercial market (Ford Pro customers). Presumably consumer versions, including an entry level vehicle, will follow.

Unlike GM, Ford has now figured out cost and size are the key to a successful EV, so that’s the development focus. You have to give them credit for pivoting from another expensive large vehicle like the Explorer EV to small, efficient and cheaper EVs that also have commercial appeal.

At the same time anyone, including people here, can buy an ICE vehicle like the EB Maverick, if you choose to do so. The overall strategy is pretty good.

actually, I explained why it was a really weak argument for you to base the validity of someone's opinion on whether they've paid money for it. people who have bought something are actually more likely to have exaggeratedly high opinions of it to justify their decision- confirmation bias.
