DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTCDescriptionFault Trigger Condition
PCM P032F:00Combustion Engine Producing Insufficient Torque: No Sub Type InformationThis DTC sets when the actual engine torque falls below expected torque for a calibrated amount of time. The DTC indicates potential mechanical failure of internal engine components. The engine is disabled if this DTC is set. The instrument cluster will display "Stop Safely Now" with triangle light.
Possible Causes

  • Mchanical failure of internal engine components
  • Higher than expected parasitic losses in the engine
  • Lack of combustion

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTCDescriptionFault Trigger Condition
PCM P1061:00Excessive Engine Component Deterioration - Forced Limited Engine Speed: No Sub Type InformationSets when the PCM detects the knock control system (KCS) voltage exceeds a maximum value greater than a calibrated number of times within a set time period when a mechanical noise is present. Engine performance may be limited to protect the engine if this DTC is set.

Base engine concerns, abnormal mechanical noise, RF or electromagnetic interference in the knock control system, a damaged knock sensor or PCM may set this code.
Possible Causes

  • Mchanical failure of internal engine components
  • Higher than expected parasitic losses in the engine
  • Lack of combustion
  • Wiring , terminals or connectors
So I'm reading this as possibly caused by bad gasoline or lower octane than optimum. Try 89 or 91?????

It has nothing to do with gasoline, premature detonation etc. The description for the knock sensor error code is Excessive Engine Component Deterioration.

i.e., a rod or crank bearing has failed

No it has to do with some incorrectly polished crankshafts - a relatively small group of them made their way into production but Ford has no idea what specific vehicles got them so they likely won't be able (even with oil analysis on every vehicle) be able to identify the suspect ones so their 'solution' is to offer this extended warranty in case you get one of these and the codes are present.

And it is very important to note that this is restricted to two specific DTC's: P1061 and/or P032F.

If you are having engine troubles, or CEL is on, and it is not related to one of those DTC's, there will not be extended coverage. Many people gloss over that part of the of the FSA!
I don't understand the OP's quote of " If a vehicle has already exceeded either the time or mileage limits, this no-cost repair will last through July 31, 2025" What does that date mean?

The extended coverage is 10 years or 100,000 miles. If you are over either of those (which for this recall, only mile overage would be possible), the coverage is through July 2025. So basically, claims for this repair can be submitted at any mileage through 31-July-2025. After that coverage stops at 100,000 miles (or ten years from warranty start date).

That is the "drop dead date" at which time the no cost repair will not be done. It basically gives anyone who has over 100,000 miles on the date of the letter or possibly at time of July 31, 2025 depending on interpretation of "already exceeded" (more likely than not the date letter/email) a period of time until the date of July 31,2025 no matter how many miles is on the truck to qualify for the long block. Assuming the examination determines the failure covered actually was the cause .

O.K. thanks, i was thinking of getting an extended warranty beginning of next year to extend myself until May of 2028, decision made. I already had a new tranny put in at 6500 miles.

This is a little concerning for us earlier Maverick owners.
I find it reassuring.

I looked up the required recall 23S27, which was a PCM updaten and noticed that the ‘23 Escapes get the new engine rather than the software update. Nice!

It is not ideal that there are any known defects. But if your Maverick is one of the very few that had bad bearings/ crankshaft not polished properly - and the engine fails as a result - you have a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. I find this to be an improvement over a software update that simply reduces power of the engine if it detects a failure. No we know if that happens then the motor gets replaced even if it occurs past the normal 5 years/60,000 mile warranty.

More ideal - but probably too much to expect - is that Ford would simply extend the warranty on the engine for all models with this potential engine problem to 10 years/100,000 miles.

But it still gives owners some additional protection

FWIW it's not so much 'there was a specific bad batch of crankshafts' so much as endemic finishing/cleaning processes weren't up to par at the engine factory resulting in statistically higher failure rates until that was identified and addressed.

Does anyone know if an actual engine failure / fire caused by bad finished crankshaft happened to a hybrid Maverick yet? I mean Scotty Kilmer said there was a MAJOR fire problem with the Ford Maverick Hybrid, 😱😲 must be true.

Why do people find this extended warranty concerning? It's re-assuring, unless if you didn't know the details about the past "Possible Under Hood Fire" recalls.

Anybody know if this problem can be detected earlier using an oil pressure guage?

Well, the software safety recall is supposed to flag the need to stop the engine. And if the engine defect is present, it will be mechanically resolved by long block replacement with no defective cranks, etc.
These seems satisfactory and is transferable to subsequent owners up to the 10/100K.
