Based on the fact that someone posted that it flashes FIVE TIMES with a trailer attached I assume that there must be a counter somewhere. I have not verified the trailer flashes. If this is the case maybe an led light bar wired like a "short trailer" could give you five flashes?????

I give the signal, check mirrors, leave lane which takes pretty much the three blinks. So if three is "I am going to change lanes signal" then three is about right. I would prefer 5 to give the behind me driver time to do something and not miss my signal.
If you were employed by the Bell System, and needed to operate one of their cars/trucks, etc, you would have taken their 'Safe Driving' course. Multiple habits for good situation awareness, escape from being trapped between the car ahead and the one about to run into your rear bumper, and changing lanes safely. Changing lanes today by many seems about the same procedure as a frustrated housefly or mosquito trying to get through a screen. Zip zap lane changed! No looking,
nor any forwarning, and all to no avail as whoever they are gets to their destination at about the same time as if they had just stayed on one lane the whole trip.
Then you have the Banzai drivers. Loud mulfflers and swayback front wheels... to go around corners better. Dropped so they can scrape their oil pan and leave sparks... A local wore a hole
in his oil pan, making me think of someone dumber than a box of rocks or a bag of hammers, but only my problem if the mess left on the road caused an accident. Life's too short.

Seriously? If you need more than three flashes just push it down or up till it locks.

I'm with you! Bless this good old USA! Funny to, we were discussing safety. Did they still have M151a1 Jeeps when you were in? No belts, no roll bar,. Independent suspension killing machine. (as in killing you if you were driving and it rolled). Very unstable rigs, but fun as hell! Oh wait, I forgot! Had that "safety strap" canvas thingy that hooked across the opening. Hahaha. Thanks for your service brother!
I was army light infantry in Vietnam supported by forward FSB with five 155's resupplied by chopper every 4th sometimes 8th day. Once went 5 months without seeing any vehicle. Three times in 11 months when we needed to relocate quickly, choppers would come and pick up our 124 man company and drop us in a clearing. Saw very few two track roads even mainly paths and animal. Hog paths were sometimes the only way to move without machete but they were only 3-4' high and leeches would drop on you big time. Was real thrill to get on chopper and zig zag between tree tops at close to full speed after walking three plus months.

I missed all that fun as I was still in school until 1973, then enlisted. The draft (lotto one) ended in Jan of 73, so that was over. I figured I better join up in case they started that back up again, I would already be done with it. Of course, they pulled the last troops out in 75, so no Vietnam for me! My best friend was a Green Beret, assigned to one of those "SOG" units. He was in three different countries, most of them he parachuted in. You know, those countries the U.S. said we were never in?
Hahaha Biggest lies they ever told! I ended up staying for 20, all of it easy times. Thank you James for your service!

I was one of the partipants in that discussion. I did a search through FORSCAN and did not find anything. Someone posted that maybe having a trailer connected would increase the flash count. I have a trailer and tested it and found no change.

The only way to increase the flash is to either do a double tap or turn on flasher and turn off after completing lane change.
I routinely double tap. Of course in most areas, a turn signal prompts drivers to increase speed to prevent a lane change. A cop did this to me last week.

Your welcome, We were army light infantry attached to marines (got a ribbon). Occasionally we would be "Radio's off" (had to "field stretcher" guy with broken leg 72 hours until he qualified for time to break radio silence and call a chopper). Maybe we were in different country (we were off our printed map looking for evidence of activity). Thank you for your 20. I volunteered for draft to get 24 months and got early out when rotated out of Nam with less than 90 days remaining. Was E5 medical specialist and was offered $8k hard to turn down sign up for six years more bonus. I did feel guilty for not signing as I was "Charmed" (never scratched, no purple heart, did have cap shot off canteen, bullet through shirt collar, ricochet off rifle barrel, tripped booby which I did while running. Pulled wire so hard the blasting cap came out of wooden handle of cast iron before exploding on my birthday, tore pants but no purple heart scratch. I felt like I could go into fire fight doing a Richard Nixon. Also had quite a few bullets "whistle by".

Man, with all that luck, I would have bought a few lotto tickets, but not sure if we had those back then? Seriously, glad you made it out OK. My favorite nephew, Marine, infantry did not come back. He was a good friend and a great guy. My uncle had to sell his red, 63 Corvette that was sitting in the garage. A tough day for my Aunt, and Uncle. and me. RIP Danny!

Yup, those “Jeeps” were scary fun. They used to lock the steering wheels with a long chain at night anchored to the tranny hump. That never kept us from joy rides in the dessert after dark!

Thanks 1SG!

I look at the 3 flash as the I used my signal when moving to an open clear lane you know the one most just skip. If your in traffic turn it on and when you complete your lane change turn it off. proper turn signal use.
There is still the bump to lightly push the stalk up against that prevents a "turn it on" while getting your lane change signals until you let go of it, so there is no "turn it off" needed.

I'm not going to break the habit that's pretty automatic, I'm expecting to drive other people's cars from time to time and figure the bump is standard by now, some auto-flash count with a tap may not always be.

Silly Silly response.
Maybe try to drive where I do. Your response is worthless.

My previous car (Subaru Crosstrek) also flashed three times after tapping the turn indicator. So I'm used to having only three. And honestly, I can't think of a time when I didn't make it into the next lane or onto the off-ramp by the end of the third flash. But then I check to see that the lane (or ramp) is open for me before I hit the indicator.
