I’m sorry if this is already out there, but other than Forscan, can I change how many times my turn signal flashes for lane changing. Based on the “clicks”, it seems my signals only flash three times. I’d like it to be more like six flashes. I can’t find it in the settings.

(I may be wrong, but I’ve never followed me to see how many flashes actually occurred.)

I'd like to know the answer to that too.

Recently rented a Kia and the ability to change the number of lane change flashes was in one of the user menus. Really appreciated the capability for the user to determine.

Factory flash count is three. As far as I can find, nothing available to modify using FORscan. Sadly. Three flashes is almost rude... the obligatory flash without really wanting to take the effort to provide a true signal of intentions. Logic says there is a programmable counter used to count the flashes, but a chip with a fixed three count may be cheaper...

Maybe it's just me but I think the three-phase turn signal is perfectly adequate. I feel if you have a six-phase, by the time you've made your lane change, the signal is going to be flashing several times afterward when it doesn't need to. I guess it depends on how long it takes someone to do it. Some are fast about it and then some are a little hesitant and take longer. I don't mean to sound like a snot or a know-it-all but it's just my two cents on the matter.

What should be implemented instead is a warning in the gauge cluster that detects your turn signal has been left on by accident for an extended period of time. If the car detects no steering input with the signal activated after a certain time frame, it should notify you to turn it off. I only mention this because this has been an ongoing problem for decades now and it's so infuriating being stuck behind someone that left their signal on for miles. It's a safety concern. I can't tell if they're signaling in advance or if they genuinely forgot to turn it off and don't hear the clicking.

I think it depends on where you are driving as well. I don’t need a warning to tell me my turn signals are still on because I am an attentive driver. I pay attention to what I am doing. If you need that warning, maybe look at paying attention to what you are doing.

It’s always push and shove in Tucson. Don’t leave the traffic light when it is green for you because someone is still trying to get through the yellow/red light.

I drive in Tucson where drivers have no common sense. It’s not as bad in Phoenix, but I still think that only three flashes are not enough. Some folks just won’t pay attention to three little flashes.

It should flash at least twice before you even start changing lanes. The point is to let people know what you're about to do. I think 5 or 6 is probably perfect.

My old 2012 Suburban had a reminder to turn off the turn signal if it was on for a long time. I'm surprised more cars don't have it.

I never knew knew that was a feature. 🤪 I accidentally caused it once and thought my stalk switch was malfunctioning! There are so many things in my manual that do not apply to my particular vehicle that I never bothered to read much of the owner's manual.

Doesn’t look like they had a solution in May. Do you know the answer ?
I was one of the partipants in that discussion. I did a search through FORSCAN and did not find anything. Someone posted that maybe having a trailer connected would increase the flash count. I have a trailer and tested it and found no change.

The only way to increase the flash is to either do a double tap or turn on flasher and turn off after completing lane change.

Bad software requirements. It should default to at least 6 flashes, with the option to change it down for people who don't know what a turn signal is actually for.

I look at the 3 flash as the I used my signal when moving to an open clear lane you know the one most just skip. If your in traffic turn it on and when you complete your lane change turn it off. proper turn signal use.

I’d love to see a Ford representative get involved in this discussion. I would “almost” Call it a safety issues.

And, before you reply, I understand that not everyone drives the same way that I do. I drove in Germany for over eight years, and you seldom see someone change lanes without signaling, and you don’t see people cruising in the left lane (unless it’s well over 100 mph.

How on earth did we all signal lane changes before OEMs started adding the "tap to signal" convenience? I mean, the first six cars I owned didn't even have this feature, and OEMs still don't have to provide it.

Anyway, I do like the convenience, and I'm cool with 3 flashes, or 5 flashes, or whatever. So I hope someone figures out how to program it, so everyone can tweak the flashes as they want. But if the feature wasn't there at all, I could still move the stalk past its detent to signal a lane change and get as many flashes as I need. 🤷‍♂️

IMHO the kinds of drivers who are too lazy to signal lane changes (or turns for that matter) are not going to be persuaded to finally start doing it by making it "slightly more convenient."

I don't really care about the turn signal flashing issue. I have Forscan and did not find it in there, only looked because I was curious. My old 1950 GMC had no turn signals as that was an option (dealer installed) from 1940 to 1953. Only had a taillight on the driver side as the passenger side was optional. I guess in those days I would have had the XL equivalent of our Mavericks! We were required to learn the old hand/arm signals. Guess what? NOBODY DIED! Haha. And now, it's "safety" for how many blinks I can get? Still alive after all that and I'm only 69 in a month.
