I never noticed it was a tap and release thing. Changing lanes I always hold it down without moving it far enough to lock. Think everything I ever drove worked this way. Next time I drive I will take notice.
As far as notifying when the signal I left on, something I drove allowed you to set the noise level of the “flasher”. Hell, I remember seeing a mechanical flasher that played a tune in JC Whitney.

I think it depends on where you are driving as well. I don’t need a warning to tell me my turn signals are still on because I am an attentive driver. I pay attention to what I am doing. If you need that warning, maybe look at paying attention to what you are doing.

It’s always push and shove in Tucson. Don’t leave the traffic light when it is green for you because someone is still trying to get through the yellow/red light.

I drive in Tucson where drivers have no common sense. It’s not as bad in Phoenix, but I still think that only three flashes are not enough. Some folks just won’t pay attention to three little flashes.
Im in Tucson also and boy are you spot on about drivers in Tucson. Ive never seen a collective pack of worse drivers than those here in the "Ole Pueblo". just plain stupid drivers. I had a guy the other day in front of me wanting to turn into a restaurant driveway. He signaled - all good but then he stopped in the right hand lane for like 2-3 seconds before entering the driveway. and no there was no one there in front of him.

Well you know Sarge there were only 25 million vehicles on the roads in 1950 so not as much traffic and everyone probably drove much slower. Today there are 285 million vehicles on the roads and a lot of them drive like idiots and turn signals are very import if you want to arrive alive. Just MHO!

ive tried so much to change the number of flashes in forscan. This is possible on the f150 and f250 but not on the focus st for example. I can look again but the methods and codings for the f150 and f250 will not work for the Maverick. EDIT- I just double checked and yeah its not possible using forscan to change turn signal flashes on the Maverick.

The best solution I have found is to bump the turn signal twice instead of once.

Hoping someone figures this out soon. It’s been available on VAGCOM for VW/Audi and changed mine when new on my 15 golf wagon to 5. Love the 5. I change casually and 3-4 isn’t enough. But in fairness, the VW/Audi is global.

I don't really care about the turn signal flashing issue. I have Forscan and did not find it in there, only looked because I was curious. My old 1950 GMC had no turn signals as that was an option (dealer installed) from 1940 to 1953. Only had a taillight on the driver side as the passenger side was optional. I guess in those days I would have had the XL equivalent of our Mavericks! We were required to learn the old hand/arm signals. Guess what? NOBODY DIED! Haha. And now, it's "safety" for how many blinks I can get? Still alive after all that and I'm only 69 in a month.
Okay, guess what… People DID die!

It just wasn’t an era when we tried to sue auto makers for our own stupid mistakes.

My ‘64 Mustang had no power steering, power brakes, back-up lights, or rear seat belts. I had to keep replacing the 13” tires often as I think they were only about four inches wide in spite of the 289 cid with factory 4 barrel and four speed top-loader. What a Fun car!

Just push the lever down or up all the way. Then return it to center when done. It’ll flash as many times as you want. Ffs it’s not hard

Factory flash count is three. As far as I can find, nothing available to modify using FORscan. Sadly. Three flashes is almost rude... the obligatory flash without really wanting to take the effort to provide a true signal of intentions. Logic says there is a programmable counter used to count the flashes, but a chip with a fixed three count may be cheaper...
Based on the fact that someone posted that it flashes FIVE TIMES with a trailer attached I assume that there must be a counter somewhere. I have not verified the trailer flashes. If this is the case maybe an led light bar wired like a "short trailer" could give you five flashes?????
Maybe it's just me but I think the three-phase turn signal is perfectly adequate. I feel if you have a six-phase, by the time you've made your lane change, the signal is going to be flashing several times afterward when it doesn't need to. I guess it depends on how long it takes someone to do it. Some are fast about it and then some are a little hesitant and take longer. I don't mean to sound like a snot or a know-it-all but it's just my two cents on the matter.

What should be implemented instead is a warning in the gauge cluster that detects your turn signal has been left on by accident for an extended period of time. If the car detects no steering input with the signal activated after a certain time frame, it should notify you to turn it off. I only mention this because this has been an ongoing problem for decades now and it's so infuriating being stuck behind someone that left their signal on for miles. It's a safety concern. I can't tell if they're signaling in advance or if they genuinely forgot to turn it off and don't hear the clicking.
I give the signal, check mirrors, leave lane which takes pretty much the three blinks. So if three is "I am going to change lanes signal" then three is about right. I would prefer 5 to give the behind me driver time to do something and not miss my signal.

Ive made the change on a VW all track using vag com (VCDS). The change is possible on F150s and F250s but the SCCM module is not the same on the Mavericks compared to these vehicles. there seems to be NO turn signal coding in the SCCM at all in the Maverick.

Yeah, you are correct. There were some fatalities during those years. Actually not to bad, all considered. In 1950, 38,000 people died in car wrecks. In 1973, year I graduated high school 54,000. Not necessarily safer back then as we keep driving many more miles most years, but the death rate, per 100,000 was lower back then. We drive fast and far these days and many more vehicles. I'll bet I could still stay out of trouble in my old 50 GMC. Got back from a car show in Boise last week, a lot of those old vehicles with no turn signals driving around. Hope you still have that 64! Our best friend has a red 65 Mustang, year she was born. You are so right about the brakes and no power steering. I am spoiled, got to have my AC and cruise. That is all I really need for options. You want to see some hard non-power steering, U.S. Army 2-1/2 ton 6X6,about a 1967 or 1968. Man, those sucked! edit, here is an interesting link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_vehicle_fatality_rate_in_U.S._by_year

Hey 1SG,

Been there, Done that! Drove all those between 1977 and 1998. My Special Weapons Team drove and fought with anything we could get our hands on. It didn’t have to be American equipment.

God Bless America!🇺🇸
I'm with you! Bless this good old USA! Funny to, we were discussing safety. Did they still have M151a1 Jeeps when you were in? No belts, no roll bar,. Independent suspension killing machine. (as in killing you if you were driving and it rolled). Very unstable rigs, but fun as hell! Oh wait, I forgot! Had that "safety strap" canvas thingy that hooked across the opening. Hahaha. Thanks for your service brother!

You guys aren't doing rapid lane changes to compensate for the lack of extra indications? I'm completely over by the 2nd flash!
