Brad, not intended to dispute anything you are writing! Yes, my Blue Ox Patriot braking system kept me legal. But I never thought it done much more than keep me legal. Even in hard braking those systems take quite a lot of time to really get to where the brakes are being applied. And even then they may not apply all that much actual braking force. For those using these electric powered systems try the "manual" application to see just how much braking force you actually have with these electric systems.
My point was simply to give an alternate opinion of the Ready Brute II braking system to what had been written. Mine is based on thousands of miles of actual use.
And I do appreciate all your points! We're both just trying to provide info.
I do know that my brakebuddy can LOCK the towed's wheels, as it did on my 4400 lb 2003 Chevy S-10. The Brake Buddy has adjustible pressure, based on weight, as well as sensitivity. I set mine to about 50 psi. Found a picture of an identical unit on ebay. Later ones have more digital stuff.

I think that is one of the systems that use air pressure? Probably a bit more force than the Patriot system. Even on #9 setting....it would never come close to locking the wheels! Still, it did provide some force and as we both agree, kept me legal!

There is a weight table for suggested compressor settings for pedal pressure, as well as the sensitivity selection. When it finishes starting up, sensitivity defaults to 4 lights...and I press the button twice to drop it to only 2 lights.

NSA has pictures and information about my fix for the surging.
Do you know where NSA has these on their site? I looked a bit and didn't run across them.

I finally completed my install. The 6 pin mount took some head scratching and wall staring but I figured out a good one...I hope. I used the huge bracket from Demco as a mounting plate for the much smaller bracket and "voila!" I have a front facing mount. Self tapping screws and bolts through both brackets secured everything well.

Looks really good and solid. Wish I had had the time to do it your way, but had to get ready to bug out, and the wife was getting nervous... If I had it to do over, i definitely would have attached the wiring mounts to the baseplate. Well done!

I doubt you would see the pics on their site! I sent those to them to show what I did and how everything was mounted. Up to them if they want to use the information. But for Maverick owners using their system, it is very much worth the time and cost as it eliminated that surging I would get under certain braking situations.

I just finished installing a Demco baseplate on my new Maverick XLT Hybrid, along with all the necessary wiring. I first want to thank BradNChristine for the excellent write up on installing the baseplate, it was very helpful.

Given that I wanted to share some observations I had during the install...

1) The Demco instructions say to torque the support brace for the baseplate to 50 lbs. I think this is correct for the bolt they supply that attaches the support to the baseplate, but the other end that attaches to the truck uses an existing bolt, and 50 lbs seems too high for the size of the bolt. Out of fear of over torquing it, I didn't go all the way to 50 lbs. If anyone has access to a Ford shop manual I'd be curious what the torque rating is for that bolt.

2) If you want to run any wiring between the engine compartment and the driver area, there is a rubber plug in the firewall that easily pops out. I just drilled some small holes in it to pass the wires through and then popped the plug back in. It worked great. See the attached photos.

3) I agree with others that the Demco baseplate feels rushed and not complete. The wiring setup they supply is useless as is, as it doesn't even match up to the baseplate. I didn't want to mount anything to the fascia for fear of it breaking, so I did what they should have an added extensions to the baseplate for the plug mount to attach to. Since I didn't have welding equipment, I used metal strapping. I wrapped it around the strapping around the baseplate bar, then overlapped it in the front and had it reach straight out at the top. I then screwed the plug mount and break-away switch into it. I worked out better than I expected and feels very rigid and secure. See the attached photos.

4) I have an old Brake Buddy from 2009, yes 15 years old, and I didn't know where to get the plugs that they used to plug the brake-away switch wire into the Brake Buddy. BradNChristine informed me they are standard banana plugs, but in the meantime I sent the same question to the company. They replied back that they would send me some. Great. They ended up sending me not only the plugs, but the whole break away system, which sells for $110 on there site, for no charge! Talk about incredible customer service!

Overall a good experience and I am pleased with the result.

Glad it works!!! I have the Ford manual and thought I put it in the document, but maybe not. I'll find and attach it.

It is on the top of page 7 in the document here, but the associated, explanatory text is on the page before, @epgrove
Thanks but I was referring to the nut (and bolt) supplied by Ford that is used at the top of the support arm. See highlight in attached photo. @BradnChristine

Oops. I honestly can't recall. I used in accordance with Demco's table for the bolt/nut size. I didn't need to research like the 4 lower metric bolts. It may have been 50 ft-lbs, but I cannot remember.

Quick question. What's the torque spec for the 4 bolts at the bottom of the Demco baseplate?

I think 50lb. I used BradnChristine's worksheet.
