I recently ordered a Hybrid XLT to replace an aging Jeep Wrangler as my towed vehicle. I will use the Falcon Base Plate on the Maverick since it is currently compatible with the system I have on the RV. On the Wrangler I used one of the drop in break controllers since the Wrangler had a 12V port that was always on. My understanding from reading the Maverick User‘s Manual the 12V port does not stay hot. They do make a break controller for the Maverick that looks pretty easy to install on the Maverick.

I would love to hear what setup others have used on their towed Mavericks and any “I wish I had … “ stories.

I was not aware Falcon was offering a base plate for the Maverick?

Do NOT buy a Blue Ox base plate!!! Two on this forum alone have had them fail in hard braking on the highway!

The Maverick 12v outlet does not stay hot. And it does not like to have a drain on the battery when flat towing. Answer to that is a simple one wire hookup to the 6 pin connector pin for battery charge. Run that to the jump post under the hood of the Maverick. If needing a 12v source in the cab, I would install a 12v accessory port and fuse/wire it to the jump post just for flat towing. Remove fuse if you don't want power to that when not towing.....

Thank you for the info realshelby! Very helpful.

Here is the baseplate that the guys at eTrailer recommended that was compatible with my Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar.

Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms Item # RM97RR

The Roadmaster base plate is safe and works just fine.
BUT...even though I have already had a Blue Ox base plate on my Maverick, which failed in use and had to be removed, I did install the Roadmaster base plate next. Works just fine but it requires excessive cutting of parts of the grill opening that cannot be undone without a LOT of work and expensive parts.
So, the DEMCO base plate is by far the easiest to install, least obtrusive as far as modifying your Maverick, and is not going to fail in the same way the Blue Ox will. I would recommend a Demco base plate over any other brand.

I looked at the DEMCO base plate, and it does look like the best option. I"m seriously considering going that route, but from my quick research, it looks like I would have to by another tow bar, because DEMCO baseplate wouldn't be compatible with the tow bar I have.

Although, when I do sell the Jeep I could advertise it as completely tow ready, so maybe I could recoup some of the cost that way, but that will probably limit the number of potential buyers. Nothing is ever simple, is it? :)

Either way, I've got plenty of time to decide, because I just ordered the Maverick 10 days ago.

Thanks for the info. This site has a lot of very valuable info from people that have real experience.

You can get adapters to make your towbar fit the Demco base plate. They replace the ends on your towbar set up. Easy to install. Some are not cheap, but neither is a tow bar.
As I understand it, the Demco uses the same pattern as a Blue Ox does.

The RM-034 adaptors are what I use on my Falcon 2 towbar to mate with my Demco Baseplate. While Demco makes an adaptor, it is about 2x the cost of the Roadmaster RM-034. https://www.amazon.com/Roadmaster-34-Adapter-Bar/dp/B003VAVZQ4/ Note that there is a RM-034-5...that is NOT for the Falcon 2.

Road Master says there is currently a 2025 Lariat in their shop as of last Monday. they expect to have the base plates to market within 4 weeks. I should get a message when they are ready.
