I’ve got about 5700 miles on my 24 mav. Yesterday drove from Texas to my Dad’s in Florida. This morning got in the truck to head to beach and transmission was slipping bad. Revs up to 7000 rpm before shifting gears. It seamed to be okay after a few min of driving.

I went out again just now and it did it again. Video attached. I’ve notice it do this before in the morning but not near this bad. Chocked it up to me just not being used to this 8 speed transmission. But now I’m worrried. Taking in to local dealer if I can get in but worried my trucks going to end up stuck far from home needing a new transmission. Please tell me I’m wrong

Update Day2: Ford contacted me on Maverick truck club forum saying “Good morning! I would like to take a closer look at your transmission concerns on my end. To get things started, can you please send over a message with your VIN along with the name and location of your local Ford dealer?”

I sent my info right away along with my cell#, they responded hours later asking for my email and owner name (which is me), which I sent, 3 hours later they asked if I’d taken it to a ford dealer yet and what did dealer say… so far this route has been a dead end.

Meanwhile I spent yesterday and today calling the 3 ford dealers within 50 miles. The Closest one never called back after going through there automated call system and leaving messages. I was able to get through later in the day by calling another department and getting transferred. They said they would not be able to even diagnose it for at lease a week and a half.

The next closest answered the phone and tried to reach thier service dept. but could get through to them themselves. They left a message for me but no one ever called back and I never got through.

The 3rd dealer (about an hour drive away) scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning. I used ford roadside assistance to get it towed there and they just picked it up after a 4 hour wait.

Update Day 3: Dealer service dept says it needs a new transmission. Warehouse shows some in stock but they have been on back order and those with previous orders will get priority. Even if he gets one it will take 5-7 days to get here then 3 weeks to get installed because he has 4 others in line ahead of me.he’s trying to get Ford to approve a long term rental.

Update 2+ Weeks: Ford Said they’d reimburse for flights home, we flew home and submitted receipts but have not recieved reimbursement yet. Spoke to service department in Florida a couple days ago They had received the new transmission the day before but couldn’t tell me how long it would take to complete repairs. Ford’s offer to reimburse for a rent is a joke. They’ll only pay $45 a day and only if you rent a ford. No one has Fords for rent so have been without a vehicle for 2+ weeks. Left a few messages with local dealer about getting a loner but no one returns calls. Ford “Customer advocate” also called them but no luck with that either. Looking into Lemon law options now which sucks because I really like the truck and have over $2500 in upgrades on it. Hoping they’ll offer an extended warranty. Funny thing is I sold my 2004 Chevy with 210k miles on it to get the Maverick because I was getting worried about taking it on long trips and getting stuck somewhere.

Yeah it looks decently smoked. Sorry.

Have you done anything that would potentially cause it to fail early, ie tow super heavy loads, etc?

If not, this is way too early for failure but good news is it will be completely covered under warranty.

The only towing I did was taking my boat (about 2500 Lbs) to the lake once. 45 miles each way. Other than that just normal driving, Mostly highway.

I have the 4K Tow package.

Disconnect the negative battery terminal for 60 seconds. I had a relative with a 2020 Ford Escape that wouldn't start with the push button but would with the remote. When they got in and put it in drive, the engine would die. After disconnecting and reconnecting the negative terminal, the car started right up and drove fine. Essentially, you're driving a computer on wheels. Disconnecting the negative terminal for 60 seconds will reset the car's computer, including the transmission. There's a good chance this will fix the issue.

Your correct it sometimes works, but by disconnecting the battery all the DTC's that may be logged will be erased and taking it to the service department won't help since the codes if any are gone. They will just send you on your way if they can't duplicate your problem. Best to take it to the dealer before disconnecting the battery (IMHO).

The original poster didn’t mention a check engine light, and I didn't see one in the video, so there likely aren't any codes. Even if there were, disconnecting the battery won’t erase them. If it were that easy, you wouldn’t need a scanner or dealer to clear codes. Disconnecting the negative terminal essentially reboots the computer. If there’s a code present, it will still be there. Disconnecting the negative terminal is the quickest way to see if it resolves the issue. Sure, he could take it to a dealer, but it might sit there for a day or more until they get to it, and since he's out of state, he probably doesn't want to leave it so far from home. Chances are, disconnecting the negative terminal will resolve the issue and at least get him home. Then he can take it to a local dealer and explain the issue. It’s not my vehicle, but if it were me, the first thing I would do is disconnect the negative terminal and see if it fixes the problem. But to each their own.

FWIW, a couple of years ago we took delivery of a new Bronco Sport. Our dealer in Michigan drove it down to NC on a Thursday, stayed locally, and brought it to our driveway on Friday morning. At that point the car had about 700 flawless miles on it. On the very first trip my wife took in the Bronco Sport, a few hours later that afternoon, the transmission failed. They said it was the valve body, probably a tiny shard of aluminum. No matter, on things like this diagnosis is NOT of interest--they replaced the entire transmission and Ford gets the bad one back for failure analysis.

S*&^ happens.

Check the fluid!!!!
great general advice, but specific to the maverick ecoboost, this is not that easy. it would be far better for the OP to just take it to a Ford dealership asap.

there is no transmission dipstick, and you have to drive it until the transmission is at least 180F and yet you can't see the transmission temp on a stock vehicle, you need a scan tool or something capable of reading from the OBD2 diagnostic port. I have such a device, and it takes a while even on a warm day to get 180, probably at least 10 min of driving.

And then you have this process (thanks @Montana ):

The nearest dealer is Gary Smith Ford in Fort Walton Beach, Florida

Currently I am in Navarre Florida.

I am supposed to drive home June 2nd

The dealership nearest my home is Gene Messer in Lubbock, TX. Which is where I purchased the truck.

I would not take a road trip without having the transmission inspected and serviced because being stranded on the highway in need of a new transmission is a real possibility.

Best case it is low on transmission fluid. Even if that is the case and adding fluid resolves it now, I'd watch it very carefully in the future.

I agree, get it to Ford Dealer. I suspect it's something in the software if it has no codes showing so you want it addressed before it becomes mechanical.
