Well, look at it this way...everyone buying the new 4 cylinder turbo Tacoma is either going to love it or hate it, and time will tell if Toyota made the smart choice in no longer offering the Tacoma as a 6 cylinder. They need to be careful with what they do to the future 4Runner as well - they may very well have f'ed up two of their lineup offerings. Sit back and watch and see what happens.
I also wonder what the longevity is of the turbo on that thing.

Good luck with the Toyota. They're not what they used to be.

I agree I have had no issues with my Ecoboost and at 5000 miles my gas mileage meter is reading 30.1 mpg. I do drive a lot of highway but not all highway. Time will tell but hoping for 80K trouble free and then trade it for something new.
Zero issues at 16K miles on my 23 Hybrid and averaging 46 MPG combined.

No issue with my Hyb with 8k, my wife's Hyb with 12k, and family members Hyb with 16k are all '23 Lariats. That's not to say I will not have any issue in the future. It's mechanical it could south at any point or the electronics could have the smoke let out of them.

I am not sold on the longevity of turbos either. The mav's ecoboost is a fairly well proven engine but more complexity just means more problems usually. The engine doesn't worry be but the trans does. Mine sometimes clunks hard into gear at low speed. not enough to warrant service but enough to kill my trust in it over the long term.

When I'm ready to move on I'll probably go for a last gen 4runner. Until the newer turbo/hybrid drive train proves itself I'll stick with the old one.

My 7 year old tank rides fine.
I had a 96 rav it rode fine. It did have truck tires on it but I never noticed it being particularly rough. If it was I must have assumed that was the "utility" in sport utility.

Mine would keep doing it like it was switching back and forth and it wouldn't stop till I pulled over and shut it off then re-start it. Never threw a code though.
There was a recall TSB for 2022's that did this IIRC

Mine is a '23

I read an article about it when it was being introduced that said they designed the turbo to commercial specs so hopefully that means it will have a good life span

It's the worst value in the midsize segment today. I'd take the slightly refreshed Frontier over the new Tacoma any day of the week.
I shudder to think of driving a GM but I'd be in a Colorado/Canyon before a Tacoma although I'd probably go Ranger as my first choice if I were stepping up to midsize.
The Frontier is pretty awful by comparison to any of the other midsize, just my opinion.

I'd be lying if the Colorado ZR2 didn't look enticing just for the fun I'd have off-road. It also gets like 17 mpg combined and is 50k. ☹

Mine does the surging when slowing almost to stop too. Seems to do it once or twice and then not any more that trip. It feels really harsh, I worry about mechanical stress/failure on the transmission.

Yesterday almost caused me to rear end the vehicle in front of me. I wonder how many have this issue. Doing a search it seems many do. Ie "normal operation".

We have a Prius and it has never done anything of the sort.
I surprised to see the number of people with 23 hybrids saying they still have this issue. I had the same problem, plus a few others, like surging and clunking/jerking when slowing down to a stop. But that was on my 22 hybrid. The 24 hybrid I have has had none of those issues.

Probably Ford is happy to see you going too.
With all due respect so you expected a company to buy back your used vehicle because of some noises that have no impact to your ability to drive the car? or the steering wheel get hot not the way you like it? Did the vehicle ever left you stranded?
