Sounds like my Mazda experience, dealer service was excellent, thought I had a dealer for life - until the 3rd vehicle, a tribute- never been back to the MFG or dealer - and never willIt is so funny how we get emotional about bad vehicles. OP, I'm not trolling you. I say funny because I had exactly the same reaction to a lemon RAV4 Toyota 20 years ago. That plus a few bad sales experiences at Toyota dealerships in MA just turned me off the brand for life. Haven't set foot in a Toyota dealership since.
Now intellectually, I realize I'm shooting myself in the foot. Statistically Toyota has demonstrably superior product. But emotionally you can't pay me to ever again deal with Toyota dealerships and service departments. A few bad experiences soured me on the brand for life.
yeah i can see this especially since you drive a lot and need reliability - something you absolutely get with a Toyota. I would say in closing that your local dealer that you've been taking it to ....is lousy. Obviously you're not making that stuff up, they needed to at least escalate the problem to Ford and see what they would have in terms of diagnosis.Well now its my turn, My issues were this... I have a clunking noise in the front end at low speed. Five times they have said they couldn't replicate the issue. Except for once they said it was normal strut noise. Also in these five trips to the service department I told them about a surging that happens when cold and slowing to a stop it switches back and forth from gas to electric. This never throws a code and tries to pull me through my brakes. (also couldn't replicate). There were some smaller issues like my heated steering wheel would either cook your hands or stop heating all together.
Through this site Ford reached out to me when I was going through this and we talked about buyback. They were very helpful but the buyback team refused to help. I spoke with a lawyer and It definitely qualifies as a lemon. I just don't have the time. I am trading it in for a Toyota. I loved this little truck, but I won't ever buy another Ford product again. As far as trading in a vehicle that I know has issues? That is on Fords hands I have all of my service receipts saying the vehicle is fine. This was the 4th new ford I have bought in my life. And maybe this falls on the local dealerships that for whatever reason couldn't resolve the issues. It is what it is, andca while I am sure there are more people on here that have had zero issues and that's great. I drive 30k a year and I have to know that I can rely on and not incur unnecessary costs to repair because Ford washed their hands with it.
This is exactly what I was thinking.Wait until they learn how many issues the Rav 4's have...
I'm not blaming you for leaving if you are having problems, but the whole "Toyota because Toyota" argument has been dead for a while. That's kinda the vibe you are giving off here. It's a roll of the dice now days no matter what brand you go to. And this is coming from someone who will consider the new Camry once my Mavericks warranty is up which should put the Camry in year 3 or 4 of production. Apples to oranges in terms of truck to car comparison, same for the RAV 4, but I can't say as a previous Tacoma owner than I would ever buy a Toyota again simple for being a Toyota. If I'm buying something it's going to be for the practicality of it and it fits what I need. The RAV 4 does that you for you, and that's great. But I'm sorry you had a bad experience here.
I think you'll find the mindset is the same for whatever forum/brand you end up with when you are on those forums. You said it yourself, you have owned 4 FORD's up until now and all the sudden it's the worst brand ever. Maybe on your 4th Toyota you will feel the same? I think most people will agree you are doing the right thing and washing your hands, but the overall outlook is silly. Honestly it sounds like more of a bad dealer experience than anything else.
If you trade the RAV4 in and go "I'm done with Toyota, I bought a Subaru" the crowd is going to give you the same response. And it's "Bye Felicia". I understand the need for validation, but you can achieve this with much more tact. No sympathy from me with this post. Enjoy your new RAV-4 and good luck.
best vehicle i ever had was a '83 Corolla - 200K care free miles and the only thing I had to replace (besides the normal wear and tear) was an alternator - and it was so easy to access that I was able to swap it out in 15 minutes when it was zero out. Simple basic transportation - wish those days were back, and still got mid 20s mpg.Yep, another great correction, I sure wish I could buy a new 1994 vehicle these days.
Im curious if this kinda thinking has something to do with it.best vehicle i ever had was a '83 Corolla - 200K care free miles and the only thing I had to replace (besides the normal wear and tear) was an alternator - and it was so easy to access that I was able to swap it out in 15 minutes when it was zero out. I'm sure it does - even though my Toy was 40 massive years ago, I don't think they diverged too much from then , their basic no frills vehicles look solid and to the point - I don't need or want any whistles and bells on a vehicle I just want to be able to get from here to there reliably - the Mav Seemed to have met my requirements and I haven't had any probs with it but I am concerned with all the recalls that are pretty much all resolved with software updates - I guess I was disappointed to find out that their software and associated simulation testing is below par - I was in IT where you thoroughly test out a new release or product before you uinleash it on the masses, I find it a bit troubling that they are introducing bugs into what are fixes, either that or the techs aren't installing the software correctly.Im curious if this kinda thinking has something to do with it.
I’ve had so many recent Fords that have some impressive track records as far as repairs it hard for me to think any other could be better. Especially the way I treat my vehicles. They see everything from Michigan winters, mud, sand, rocks, anything you can imagine and lots of towing. I’m sure one day I’ll have a lemon but that won’t sour me.
Have a good friend who had great luck with gm stuff. One bad truck and he thought about different brand only to end up back to gm and had had great luck since.
Hmm, neither has my Maverick.Mine does the surging when slowing almost to stop too....
We have a Prius and it has never done anything of the sort.
Ford dealers are the worst. I think FoMoCo needs to do more with their franchised dealers to promote customer satisfaction.Well now its my turn, My issues were this... I agree I have had no issues with my Ecoboost and at 5000 miles my gas mileage meter is reading 30.1 mpg. I do drive a lot of highway but not all highway. Time will tell but hoping for 80K trouble free and then trade it for something new.A lot of issues to have on a new vehicle, the hybrids seem to be more problematic than the ecoboosts.
What's wrong with your Honda's brakes??This is exactly what I was thinking.
Spot on response. Love how people think that just because it’s a Toyota or Honda they never brake. lol same thing my sister-in-law thought. Well 60 k in and they have replaced several pistons and random other small things. But Honda’s never brake. Lol

Is this Rav4 a new one? used? how does it compare price wise to the Mav?I just cant see getting into a Tacoma because of the fuel economy. So I chose a non hybrid Rav 4 adventure it gets 33 hwy which is close enough for me to my MAV that got between 38 and 39. Overall I feel that for long term ownership a hybrid doesn't make since for me unless gas gets to over $6 dollars a gallon. I had a 96 Rav4 back in the day and it was a tank! Time will tell.
