Well I did something strange yesterday. Probably something that's rarely done. I mean hell, we've got people driving until the fucker catches fire, driving with their eyes closed and engine noises.

I actually checked the oil level and condition at the gas station. It had been a while, I'll admit and 7000 miles since the last change. The oil looked good, level was good and smell was good. 10,000 (Hybrid) miles 'aint no thing as long as you check your damn oil.

Thumbs up if you've checked your oil in the last month.

I just wish I had my truck, the one I ordered 17 months ago, so I could check the oil in it! Yea, Yall probably get tired of hearing it and I know others have waited as long, or longer, but ya know the old saying, "the squeaky wheel gets greased!"

I change my oil every 5K and have never needed to add any oil between. Last 4 Fords.
That's what I plan to do (5K oil changes). I just went over a thousand & I thought it might be a good idea to change the oil/filter early on the factory oil with a new engine and all and I'm glad I did. Probably would have been fine to leave in longer but I did see very small random glitter & the oil was green & seemed like it was sticky (maybe not).

Oil? It can't only be me that's never opened the hood! Right? 🫣

2022 XLT AWD.
Well jeez, If a person can't pump their own gas, I doubt they'll know how to check the oil. Pull twice and ask Tony to check it!

I started changing my own oil since the dealer takes all day to do an oil change now. I change the oil and leave it 1/2 quart lower than the capacity. Start the engine let the oil circulate. Pull the dipstick and check it ad then add oil to bring it up to the top of the XXX mark on the dipstick. Usually I only have to add about 1/4 quart.

You should ALWAYS, ALWAYS check your oil level at least twice a month. One time I had an oil change on my 2012 Focus at the dealer and I checked the oil level about a week after the dealer changed the oil. I always check the oil level right after the dealer changes the oil when I get home. So this was another check. I noticed the oil level had gone down some. More than usual. My Focus was using about 3/4 oil every 5k. I had over 50k on the engine. Long story short, it turns out the dealer had over tightened the oil filter and deformed the gasket causing a leak. If I had been one of those people that never checks thier oil between oil changes I could have had the oil leak to the point where the engine was damaged. I would never go over 5k miles on an oil change for any car. I use a full synthetic and I change it every 4k because it's a turbo.

Check soon AFTER an oil change.
Many reports of over filling.

5.7 ≠ 6 just because you or the guy doing it doesn't want a partial container laying around.
That be me! Little too much is better than not enough!i really don't think it will hurt anything .

I wonder if NJ will follow the Oregon way and make it ok to pump your own and retain half the pumps for full service use. Nice compromise I thought.

Yeah, I check the color right after change, but is it ever NOT overfilled by any shop? The only time I've ever had it NOT overfilled is when I did my own changes. I've done quite a few but I'm done for a while.

Hard to tell when or why to report an overfill for the layman. 7200 miles, oil life 42%.
I've wondered the same. Most of my O/Cs are at one of two Ford dealers now, and occasionally at a quick lube. I don't check my oil often, but just about every time I have, it's appeared to be overfilled, such that by this point I've written it off as "normal." (Yes, this is after removing the dipstick, wiping off, reinserting, removing.)

I change the oil on both cars every 3,000 to 3,500 miles. My 2006 Explorer has 267,000+ miles on it with no problems at all. I have never added a quart of oil. Can't wait to get my new Maverick.

So if I read this right you change the oil. But you have never added a quart of oil.

What fluid are you putting back in when the oil comes out.

Auto Transmission fluid? Turn signal fluid? I am puzzled.
