Subaru ruined the '25 forester by putting in a huge center console screen and moving a lot of the controls to it. I really love manual controls and really hate digital ones on a screen. Zero tactile sense of what you are doing and it forces you to take your eyes off the road. Garbage.

The big takeaway in the article is the new announcement of even more Maverick production.
Has anyone seen an official Ford announcement on this? They did have a good January but I have not seen anything from Ford.

This is the center console on the new ranger:

Ford Maverick Updated 2025 Maverick w/ larger vertical screen spotted! 1707239705167

Looks like they are moving that design into the Maverick.

I hope it's just an option as the refreshed Escape is keeping the smaller 8" screen with it's physical knobs for audio and climate control for the low and low-mid trim levels. I'm one of the ones that never thought the Maverick's current screen was too small. However as I know I'm going to lose this war with the automotive bean counters, if I have to pick between A) large screen but physical controls or B) a smaller screen but no physical controls, I'll pick option A. I'd rather have that Ranger vertical screen with the physical A/C controls than have the Escape's 12" screen where most controls are via the touchscreen.

Ford doesn't comment on future products, until they are ready to introduce them.

I'll welcome a bigger screen in any orientation, as long as it comes with not-last-century infotainment (to include a not-complete-garbage rear view camera). And I'll pay for it - within reason.

But the rest of you shouldn't have to, so let's all cross our fingers and hope Ford keeps the Maverick bare bones and cheap, but offers more content as optional packages. For those of us who want more and are willing to pay more to get more.

That said, there is a point where you are putting lipstick on a pig. I hope they don't overdo it.

Edit - the Chicago Auto Show is next week. Who knows... Maybe we'll see something in the Ford booth.

One other point to add - pretty grainy photo. If you look at the driver A pillar, you'll see some engineering crap bolted on. It's absolutely possible that huge vertical screen is some engineer widget similarly bolted on.

I could have told you this was coming. From the Mach E to the F-150 and the new Ranger. Only Bronco is the only one with a horizontal screen.
I suspected it would, but there was hope for a similar design like the Escapes had.

One of the worst IMO. The RAM's are also that way. But those Subaru's all focus on the piano black trim along with that crappy screen design.

I have been thinking that I'll upgrade my Sync (from the XLT's Sync 2) at some point and I was thinking of upgrading it to Sync 3 or 4 but if this can somehow retrofit I might do that. However, initial impressions are that it cant retrofit.

One argument why the Ranger screen might be coming to the Maverick (although I really doubt it will) is that Purchasing got a great deal in a volume buy of that screen and sent an edict to Design to use it everywhere. You hear product leads talk about this all the time on Autoline After Hours. Lots of time the designers are driven by the bean counters.

Do we also get a bigger cubby? Maybe a vertical cubby going all the want down next to the screen. Perfect place for folded magazines?

Looks like a 360 camera is definitely coming.

If it has Sync4, Wireless Carplay and keeps the AC/buttons as shown, I would jump on it if it's an easy conversion. I love the Sync 4 in our Bronco.

I had some hope they wouldn't refresh the interior but instead find a suitable 10" horizontal screen that replaced the 8" but oh well.

I don't need or want a bigger screen. It displays what it needs to just fine.

It also simplifies parts supply and design. You can re-use code for free but it costs money to rewrite it. Using the same stuff across multiple platforms is smart. The customer should see lower repair costs but then again...
