No, one of the draws is the maverick is small. Adding a 4 bike hitch carrier would be huge. And a pain in the ass to take on and off every other day. The truck will be used for daily errands and parallel parked into city parking spots.

The tail gate pad is awesome b/c it stays on the truck and bikes can be 'tossed' in a few moments but left on the truck and not worried about.

If we were to do an acutal bike-camping trip we would probably add a hitch carrier or a roof box for gear - which ever is cheaper. But 95% of our bike rides are day trips from home base.

Gotcha, makes sense. For me, however, the hitch is the way to go as I will do bike-camping road trips as you mentioned. I don't bike so often.

On the pad, I wonder about the scratchings that it may do to the paint. It definitively looks easier to use, but thinking it may scratch the paint someway scares me.

You can order vinyl vehicle wrap by your vehicle color code (some place in Arizona, I think). I am thinking I may custom make a fiberglass bed cover for my cactus grey so I will probably have a tailgate size piece available next summer. Or maybe they will make a couple rolls of each maverick color and sell by the inch?

Or just use clear PPF, its more resistant to scratch/abrasion than thin decorative vinyl and 100% color matched to all colors :)

And probably 1/3 the cost of color matched. Unfortunately as a diy fiberglasser I do not feel comfortable using the clear for my bed shell.

I’m looking at a tailgate pad for my MTB bikes, but for pad and film, it’s getting close to cost of a two bike version of these: https://exodux.com/. Curious if anyone had used them and could share their thoughts.

The pad looks great! I am still trying to decide how I am going to transport my Pivot Trail 429. Using a single tray hitch rack on my Crosstrek.

I ordered basically the same truck, love the red color. I do have a question about the interior color. What is your option on the blue interior color with the red?

What size bikes are you guys carrying on your tail gate? I currently own an F150 but want to downsize to a maverick. My only concern is that longer 29's won't fit.

I do not have first hand knowledge, but those bikes are both full size 29ers. I do not think you would have any issues.

Thanks for the post. Just got mine and tried it out today. It's the S/M size pad.

anyone know if you could fit 4 bikes in the back? either alternating directions somehow or stacking 4 front wheels on a tailgate pad? Assuming just laying 4 down on top of each other (not idea) with tailgate open could work.

Yes, no problem. You can’t alternate them, but the way the wheels and bars all tilt the same way they can be close together. I had 4 bikes in my Ridgeline the same pad with no issues and space to spare. The box width isn’t that different as the pad with is also this same S/M.
