This is not a review of the pad’s performance…got it for Christmas and needed to test before return date expired. I’ll be keeping.

Race Face T2 Tailgate Pad Black, S/M

Edit to add this comment shared with me:
Love it! Im going to buy this pad as well for my soon to be maverick. Just a heads up for other potential buyers this is available for just over $110 (with shipping) straight from raceface right now if you choose the right color. There is also the fox overland pad for the same price which is the same pad but with different branding.

https://www.raceface.com/products/t2-tailgate-pad

https://shop.ridefox.com/products/overland-tailgate-pad
Four straps underneath, top straps didn’t need any tightening. Interior is a soft fleece-like fabric. Edge dimensions look spot on.

Holds five bikes with some contact between bikes on the tires, rims, spokes, and forks. The bikes have no contact with the truck other than the rear tire on the bed. I DIDN’T DRIVE ANYWHERE, I DON’T KNOW HOW WELL IT WOULD HOLD OR PROTECT YOUR BIKES WHILE DRIVING ON YOUR ROADS. There is less contact here than I had on my three bike trunk carrier, and putting the bikes on this is 10x faster.

Bikes L -> R:
  • 27.5+ Medium MTB (27.5+ I think the outside diameter is the same as a 29er)
  • 700c 54cm Road Bike
  • 26” Medium MTB
  • 26” Medium MTB
  • 20” Kids Bike

The pad has a center cutout with two adjustable/removable pads. I adjusted the lower pad to allow for the camera to peek through. I can easily access the handle between the pads. The tailgate pad can be used with one, two, or none; I might just remove both if I don’t have a bike in the center.

It fits like it was made for it
With my 29er with 160mm fork the tire rests on the bumper
Don’t think 5 big bikes would fit and drive up a fire road without issues but I guess it’s possible

I just put mine on today

most likely will not live on the truck all the time, sadly I don’t have enough time to ride as much as I’d like

I don't have my Truck yet, but I have my Fox version (precisely the same) of this pad already. It's 50% off direct from Fox right now.

Thanks guys. I have been looking to get a tailgate pad for sometime now. I just ordered mine from Raceface. Floral for the cactus grey Maverick

This is awesome!

It's a bit hard to tell in the photos, but I'm assuming the bikes ended up higher then the roofline? Could you give me an idea of how much higher?

I'd like my bed cover to be high enough to tuck a bike in.

Hello,

May we please have the links directly to the pad that fits the truck? Do you need a code to get the 50% off? Thanks so much!

Ask, and you shall receive. I paid $92.50 Canadian. So it should be 25% less than that in USD. I think the shipping was $40 Canadian.

Yes! It’s the “Mid-size Truck” option. Exactly the same dimensions on the drawings as the Raceface, and only $110.99 shipped right now for Black. No code required: $85.99 + $25 shipping. Great deal! (Compared to ~$170 on Amazon)

The Raceface “Midsize Truck” is also available for $111 shipped ($86+$25) if you’d like the Floral pattern someone shared above.

Be advised: Chromoly framed bikes do not like the tailgate. I have seen several dented down tubes from "pad" riding. The thickness & square edge of the tailgate makes a very focused "hot spot" on the frame. I'd consider bolstering the pad somehow or get a down tube stick-on shuttle bumper...... Also Take that pad off between uses; it will chafe the paint and sun will weaken the material/straps. Good luck out there...

I also have this pad on my Mav. Fits great but does slightly obscure the camera as you can see in the op's post.

On thing that i wanted to mention is that i added two 20" cable locks to lock the pad to the truck. Its not super secure or anything, but i keep my pad on all of the time so this just keeps honest people honest. They could be easily cut with a small bolt cutter. Also note the 12" ones are too short.

Do you have a method for locking up your bike(s) while they’re in the bed?

Like if you want to keep the bike in the bed overnight? If that's the case, I personally wouldn't do that unless you can keep an eye on it all night. Like I work third shift, so I can leave the bike in the bed all night long because the truck is kept on private grounds.
