If they made it more rounded, squishy and put a prominent push button in the middle of it it'd probably go over much better with the male crowd. Guys couldn't keep their hands off it. Twisting that thing all over the place.
Embrace the knob!!! 🤪

I don't really have any feeling about the shifter other than I wish it would "click" into place a little more.

After 5 months, I no longer hardly look at it. One notch to the right to back out of the garage, then I SPIN it to the right. It can't do anything but end up in Drive. Come to a stop somewhere to park, SPIN it to the left and it will be in Park. Probably would have worked just as well to have the dial STOP at Park and Drive, but it wasn't that hard to get to learn to spin for 3+ clicks in either direction.

And although I have not gotten into the (bad?) habit of just pressing the Off Button when stopped in Drive, it will automatically go into Park, all on its own.

Different as hell, but like driving a scooter, it is easier if you don't look down.
I confess, I hit the off button when I park. I guess I’m lazy because I like shortcuts sometimes 🤔

Who used their flooshifter for a hand rest🤔
I for one always have, maybe because half of the vehicles I have owned had manual floor shifters.
I rest my arm on the console and my hand flops around, just like the dial 😊.

Only people that can truly love a rotary shifter are bean counters. Removes content and saves money. Thats it.
One who has ever been a manual transmission person usually misses the stalk.
You totally nailed it, no stops and all😡

Perfectly legit.

I might have to try the open door with seatbelt off one but I’m afraid I might automatically move forward a little 🤔 Next experiment in the driveway!

...I think that the habit of switching to drive while still rolling slowly backward is terrible for the transmission.
With electronic shift, the computer won't actually make the change until it can safely do so without breaking anything.

I usually have that hand on the steering wheel, with the other one. Most of the roads around this hilly area are quite crooked & steep. Lotsa curves!

Look first. Then shift. There, that wasn't so hard.
Can you imagine the complaints we'd hear if Ford built the Maverick with only a manual transmission? You mean I have to coordinate accelerator, clutch, and shifter simultaneously? Couldn't they invent something simplier?
I prefer manual trans vehicles, maybe because that's what I have always driven, no problems with conventical auto shifts either. You can instinctively feel when you have shifted to the desired position. I drive left and right hand drive cars with stick shifts and usually have no problem with either one although I occasionally used to try to shift with the window winder!

Not the exact same circumstance, but I already once hit Park by accident while backing up. As the Park pawl engaged it was CLUNK! CLUNK! CLUNK! There is no way that was harmless. The next day I noticed a slight gear oil smell in the garage. No drips under the truck and no warning lights so I guess I didn’t crack the case.

I didn’t have my belt off, but i was reversing very slowly down the curved section of my driveway and wanted to make sure I wasn’t driving onto the lawn that had just been hydro-seeded, cracked the door open and got lurched into Park

I agree about the shifter hand rest.
Only now my hand rests in a position such that my middle finger lingers above the “L” button.
Using it as a downshifter.
Watch that regen needle go way down into the green!

Took me about 2 seconds to get used to it. My 21 Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve has the same shifter, except that it stops at either end of the spectrum. My Lincoln Corsair has the piano shifter.

I've had no problem adjusting to any variation of shifter in my lifetime. My first vehicle, a '63 Pontiac LeMans had a vertical lever on the dash as a shifter.
