It is a small truck, with a VERY small bed. But the cab is roomy for a compact class truck.

I'd guess that few of you ever drove a truly small truck:
2023 Ford Mav: 200 X 73 X 69, wheelbase 121
1972 Chevy LUV: 174 X 63 X 59, wheelbase 104.3

1972 saw the gasoline shortages and small was the thing of the day
Days of the Courier

Had fun with it, but it was pretty useless as a truck

Unfortunately, he has my family's athletic skill... which is why we all work with computers for a living...

But I didn't need a second mortgage to afford an F-150. Explorer should be big enough, though, for longer trips.

Compared to a BMW Isetta the Maverick is not a small truck.

When our Mav was purchased we traded in our '08 Dodge Grand Caravan, which nobody calls a small vehicle. The Mav is only 3" shorter, 4.5" narrower, and the same height as the GC.

In fact, it is convenient to be able to lower the Mav's tailgate with the garage door closed, unlike the enormous GC liftgate.

In summary, we love the Mav (47+ mpg over the last 1,000 miles) and DO NOT miss the GC.

I've read threads like this a few times on the forum but I often wonder how true it is.

Specs are difficult to pin down on older vehicles but Motor Trend has an article on the 2008 Ranger and the size specs aren't all that different from the Maverick.

2008 Ranger specs: 188.9-203.6 x 69.3-71.3 x 66.2-67.7 inches
2023 Maverick specs: 199.7 x 72.4 x 68.7 inches

Measurements are length x width x height and as you can see your old Ranger isn't that much smaller than the Maverick. The Mav is a few inches wider and few inches taller but not by much.

Honestly I think it is mostly the cabin space that makes you think the Maverick is so much larger. You moved from a single cab pick up to a crew cab pick up.

Anyway, by todays standards the Maverick is a very small truck. Not a small vehicle by any means but in comparison to other trucks it is small.
Even in comparison to other vehicles it's not that big. It's only a foot and a half longer than a Corolla

It's not a small truck. It's just that full-sized trucks have gotten so ridiculously huge that, compared to today's F-150, Silverados, etc., it seems small to some people.

Compared to small trucks that were actually small a few decades ago, the Maverick is big.
I still can't believe how large then you tundras are. At some point there has to be a legal limit on how long these vehicles can get it

I agree. It is not a small truck. My new Maverick is longer and as wide as my Jeep Wrangler unlimited 4 door with 35 inch tires with front and rear steel bumpers. Length wise, the Maverick barely fits in my standard garage. I park my cars in the garage so the Maverick is the only truck that would fit. Anything bigger, would not work.
A Wrangler is also not a large vehicle. The Mav certainly isn't short. But it is in fact a small truck. Its not tiny. But it is significantly smaller than any full size truck and is now a fair bit smaller than most mid sized trucks.

I love pulling up to a lifted $80,000 F-150 in my "little" $27K lowered Mav XLT HYBRID (as I chuckle to myself). Really, the only interior difference is the size of the ARMREST
I know this is crazy but I'm coming from a 10K subcompact car. I can't get over how luxurious it feels compare to my current vehicle. Now it just has to show up at the dealership so I can pick it up
