So many folks happy with their hybrids but I am guessing they are using their Mavericks as commuting vehicles and perhaps live where there is little or now snow and where it won’t be countrified. WIsh postings addressed the locations and such. I am glad I will have AWD in the midwest.

Unless you're in mountains, Front Wheel Drive handles the snow fine. If your truck largely never leaves payment and you're not in, like, the rocky mountains, Front Wheel Drive can handle pretty much anything you'll toss at it.

Like I needed a truck to haul gear, but the most "off road" I go is the dirt road to the cabin. Before the truck, I was daily driving a Nissan Versa. Anyone will tell you, the problem in a midwestern winter isn't getting going -- it's stopping. Slow down. Have good tires. You'll be fine.

(I've lost count of the number of AWD and 4WD vehicles I've seen in a ditch as I ambled on by in my little FWD hatchback during heavy snow.)

(...and again, there ARE areas where AWD is more of a necessity, but not like 90% of the country. And if you're towing with your Maverick or going off road OF COURSE you should get AWD. It's not that no one needs AWD, it's that a lot of folks think they need it who will never use that capability of their truck.)

I like reading all the comments thinking people buy AWD vehicles just for the fact there is snow. I like my AWD vehicles just as I do my Jeeps. There is a proper tool for every situation and AWD will out accelerate, and typically out handle a FWD vehicle in most situations. Most people do not realize due to the ever loving EPA that most FWD vehicles are open differentials and spin just one wheel under power. The problem with most modern vehicles is people DO NOT KNOW how to operate traction control and know when to turn it off in the snow. They should rename Traction Control something like Brake Assisted Driving BAD for short.
I do get your point however there are a lot of folks who buy them for adverse weather and while I do drive mine in all weather, I like the AWD aspects in all situations not just for adverse weather.

I got this new 2023 ecoboost AWD XL (base) trim. Only upgrade was the AWD package.
According to EPA, the mileage should be 23/29/25. 23 being local, 29 highway, 25 mixed.
I live in the suburbs of a moderate size city.
After a few weeks driving, according to the digital trip meter, I'm getting on average 25/32/29.
70% of my driving is highway. But I don't speed much. Usually only 5MPH above posted speed limit. That means only about 70MPH or 75MPH depending on the highway. There are many police/state trooper patrols hiding somewhere along the highway I don't want to get a ticket.
Many years ago I tried a radar detector, but still end up getting a ticket. So speeding is not an option for me.
I'm not a lead foot or racer. I'm not intentionally trying to get best mileage either. Just my usually driving habits. Almost never flooring the pedal.
I was a little upset when my hybrid order gets nowhere, not even in production after almost a year. Finally I had to settle with a 2.0 ecoboost because that's the only available maverick in my local dealer, and there are people trying to buy it.
But this gas mileage is almost as good as the hybrid. I mean 29 combined is amazing! I've never driven a car this efficient before, ever!

I drive the speed limit with my AWD Ecoboost and regularly see a bit over 31 hwy in stand mode.my wife the lead foot sees 28-29.very pleased!

As I said in the post you quoted, there are other reasons to get AWD. There are definitely performance advantages, and if you're taking this truck off road, of course you want AWD. If you're never leaving paved roads (and never towing), the advantages of AWD versus the added cost and the loss of fuel efficiency is a much more personal equation though.

I bought the truck to haul things in the bed - not go fast or take tight corners at speed. I'm not one of the people who's excited about a possible ST trim. I do stupid things on the road in my hatchback, not my truck.

As I said in the post you quoted, there are other reasons to get AWD. There are definitely performance advantages, and if you're taking this truck off road, of course you want AWD. If you're never leaving paved roads (and never towing), the advantages of AWD versus the added cost and the loss of fuel efficiency is a much more personal equation though.

You would think hot hatches would be the rave in EV development to attract the performance crowd. I can't wait until the aftermarket engineers upgrades for inverters and motor controllers so more EV systems can be adapted to other makes. Right now I can see an older used to be ICE converted to EV sleepers coming for sure.

Glad I am in my mid fifties and not old yet LOL - There are two hybrids at work and they are secretaries who live in town and one told me she drives about six weeks to a tank the other day. I think her commute is like eight miles each way. And that right there is the sweetness imho of owning a hybrid. But for rural driving where you get no benefit from it I believe the eco is the way to go.

With the Maverick , anyone who intends to tow anything over 2k lbs via the 4K tow w/ integrated brake controller will need awd, as it's only available with awd equipped EB Mavericks. The hybrid doesn't make that option available. Accept that some need awd.

Why so snarky? I don't understand why some Maverick Hybrid folks find it necessary to shame Maverick EB folks. That's just being unnecessarily divisive; really petty.

I agree Peter, both versions have unique benefits. That is why, at 2 trucks for the price of one full size, I bought one of each. Do this over time and you will get max mpg and max capability too. Spread the miles they will last twice as long.

When the warranty is up, you can turn the Mav turbo into a rally truck by getting a tune to over 300HP. This cannot be done with the hybrid.

At $10-12 more per tank, the extra capability is worth the cost of a lunch. I never had to put chains on in Park City even with this huge snow year and even though I just have the std street tires.

The turbo AWD is way more fun to drive. If I had to choose one this would be it. Here is a video showing the turbo's passing power uphill. I hope my real world drives helps everyone.

I live in Northwestern Wisconsin, and I've never had a problem with front wheel drive in the winter.

Of course, I learned to drive in Wisconsin winters in a 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis, so every car has felt like easy mode since then

I live by South Bend where we get the lake effect snow after the regular snow is done and sometimes we get pounded while 10 miles away they get sunshine, Front wheel drive was sufficient and better than my 3rd gen Camaro with warped tires,

What I notice now is about
22-23 city
At around 60-65mph... 32 hwy if it has slight hills and up to 38-40 hwy if it's nice and flat straight aways..
Around 26 in interstate doing around 80-85mph...
I do all 3 almost daily city/hwy/interstate
If I just look at the avarge for a full tank it will be around 26-27mpg
