Sadly that noise is normal. ( and probably will not be a problem over the long term )
Mine has done it from day one. What you are hearing is the engine shutting down and bouncing off the damper. There is s spring cushioned damper between the engine and the hybrid drive. On occasion the engine shuts down awkwardly and you will hear the springs in the damper bouncing back and forth. Sorry to say I don't think there is a fix for this. Check out the hybrid escape forums - you will hear the same complaints. I have found ( this is anecdotal ) - I have found that running higher octane fuel - 91 or 93 seems to almost eliminate this problem. The engine seems to shut down quicker? But again. I only believe this to be true and have not tested it otherwise.
This noise started for me a few months after receiving my Maverick. This is the best and most likely explanation that I've been able to find on it. It might be normal, but it sure doesn't sound normal! I love my Maverick, but it sure does make a whole lot of random noises.

Ok guys to check alcohol in gasoline.
Buy a bottle marked for this purpose $10-$30 or on the cheap buy a 6" rain gauge put 1" water in gauge then put 5" gasoline in, cover top and shake vigorously etc let sit for 5-10 minutes. For every 1/10th inch increase in the water level multiply by 2. That will be the % of alcohol in the gas. (1"=20%, 0.5"= 10%). The water molecule bonds to the alcohol and being heavier than gasoline settles to the bottom carrying the alcohol with it.

Doesn't sound normal because it isn't, definitely not operating as designed.

Mine did it once transitioning to electric, slowing at low speed, in 30,000 km's (hope I'm not jinxing myself by saying it). Some factor or combination of factors (more likely) caused it. Damper design/construction may have played a part, but the damper didn't heal itself since that one time about 10,000 km's ago. There is something else that impacts how smoothly the ICE shuts off at low speeds that is much more out of spec. on some units.

I opened a ticket with Ford when mine first did it and will follow up if it occurs again.

Cheers.

I agree w comments above. My hybrid Maverick has done the same since new. Lots of noises, clunks, whistles, braking vibrations and groans. It’s the new way of hybrids.
3500 miles and its’s still keeps going!
It’s a darn good truck.

Lemon law? For an undefined noise that has no established cause or loss of functionality?

It makes me wonder if the engine will wear out to get damaged prematurely but - they are getting over 200,000 miles on this engine and setup - look at the various reviews of the Ford escape hybrids used as taxi's in NYC. They have upwards of 500K miles on the engine. I really do hate the rattle sound when the engine stumbles to a stop.. but as I reported, higher octane gas does seem to improve the situation. I would say 9/10 stops are quiet - 1 in 10 has the rattle maybe less. on my truck.

It might be a computer thing - the way I imagine it, the computer needs to kill the engine before you come to a stop if it get's the timing wrong there is this fight between the engine and the MG2 and hybrid drive components. Most of the time it's perfect but when it's not you feel and hear it.

I am not changing gears nor putting into neutral it is the engine cutting off and turning back on...BUT the noise is the loud sound that sounds like fan blades hitting something. I will edit the videos tonight so that the sound is as soon as you play the video. Thank you for taking the time to respond :)
Like others have said...I'm going to guess it's the ICE "dieseling" when it shuts down. Hard to tell from a video though.
A good test for this would be to try higher octane full like 91 or better and see if it quits.
Either way I would say it's not normal and it shouldn't need anything more than 87.
Have you looked under the hood to see if anything looks like it's hitting or obviously out of place, loose?
Does it vibrate or anything during the noise?

In the original post it said that the truck was at one dealership for 28 days in the shop then another for another 8 days. There may have been some other days too.

With that many days in the shop I would have lost confidence in the truck.

Watch the videos on YouTube about the Hybrid drive train, I did when I bought my first one in 2010, the Maverick is # 5 and we purchased a Camry Hybrid for wifey today because her Prius folded up like it was supposed to and protected her from serious injury after being body slammed by a 2004 Suburban.

I have a 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid. December I had it to the dealer at 1900 Miles because it started making a bizarre noise switching from Ice to hybrid. they had the truck for 28 days, did provide a rental however, returned to me with no problem found. last month I took it to the dealer, a different one for the same issue, they had my vehicle for 8 days with no rental . they said they could not duplicate the sound even though I told them the sound happens at drive-thrus stop and go while driving at traffic speed at times but not all the time. they put roughly six miles on my truck and didn't find anything. when I picked up the truck, I drove away about 5 miles when I encountered the sound once again. I am very very frustrated with the fact that everyone keeps trying to tell me the noise is normal it is not. I have never heard another hybrid making this noise . I am now reaching out to the community in the Forum for your feedback. Please listen to the files I have attached. These are the same files I have sent to THE BIG Ford in the sky and also provided to the dealer. I still have an open Ford case number. It is my second case for this issue and I am trying to get a rental from FORD to get the vehicle seen a third time . The dealer is balking at providing me a rental. I don't think this is fair, more importantly, to my MTC community, are any of you experiencing the noise and awful shudder ? I would like to thank everyone in advance who takes the time to listen to these clips and provide feedback.

SADLY, THESE SOUNDS ARE NOT NORMAL.

Please understand that until 1900 miles, my truck was silent and purred every where I went.

Yes mine does this.
I think best we can do is Document, Document, Document. Even use print-outs from this forum as evidence.

I think there will be a recall coming, but I don't know how soon.

If not, class-action law suit will be coming... as soon as this issue starts stranding people. Mine still gets me to work every day so I keep driving it.

I took it to a dealer one time for this.
I took a mechanic on a test drive while I was driving it. When it DID HAPPEN I said "hear that?" he said yes. The second and third time on the same drive I said "feel that shudder?" He said yes. The kept my truck 48 hours, did the brakes reprogramming and did the air bags recall/replacement, but returned the truck "could not replicate customer concern regarding rattle and shake".
🙄

This is FOR SURE NOT "A COMPUTER THING".

This is FOR SURE a MECHANICAL THING.

The only unknown is how much damage this is doing, and how long can it last like this?

Mine was doing it at 2500 miles.
I reported it to Ford at 5000 miles.
It is still doing it at 7500 miles.

I'm going to be blunt.
The sounds recorded are clear and of good resolution.

Anyone who think this sounds like "dieseling" has

A) never heard a diesel engine
B) never heard a "dieseling" engine
C) anyone who thinks this is in any way fuel quality or octane related needs to have their hearing examined.

Sorry to be so blunt. But if you don't know what you are talking about, please refrain from "diagnosing" troubles. You are muddying the waters, and impeding actual progress.

Same for ours. Probably started making the noise at low speed at around 3k miles, and has continued doing it (18k miles now).
