That would have been rough for me to use the lemon law on that issue since it’s fixable and not gremlins all over the truck. I might have held out since they were giving you a loaner, let them fix when the parts came in and then sold it for more than paid. But, I do get the paying a note while it’s been sitting at the dealer. Good luck.

I will get what I easily can get. I’m not going remove stuff that was 3m taped. I haven’t seen you in here lately. How’s your Mav?
Sorry to hear about your truck. Mines doing well aside from the deep sleep messages. Recently bit the bullet and swapped out the 12v battery under the bench seat. Getting a Ford dealer to do it under warranty wasn't worth the time and effort.

This may vary by state, but in CA a vehicle is declared a lemon by the Manufacturer. Once Ford has paid out the customer under the lemon law the vehicle will get a Lemon Title.

It is up to Ford of how they dispose the vehicle, but the most common way is using a 3rd party who sends it to auction.

The dealer might be able to buy it, but most likely the won't as the Carfax and Title will now have a Lemon Buyback on it.
This post is correct. My brother is a Ford RAV service advisor at a CA Ford dealer. He gets the reacquired vehicles shipped to him and he has techs figure out what they need to be repaired and he sends an estimate in for the repairs. If he gets the ok they fix the vehicle and they ship them out of state by train. Any aftermarket parts like wheels are replaced with OEM parts.

He has a Maverick FX4 right now that I plan on checking out.

Exhaust parts might come late next month. I was hoping it would get fixed and I would get the most comprehensive ESP with my lemon claim.
I wish you the best, it sucks to have a lemon especially one like a MavBrid that really is close to (currently) irreplaceable.

For a decade, I drove used Nissan Altimas and Maximas. Was doing 30-40k a year driving from Ohio to Carolina. Finally settled down in Columbus and decided I'd buy my first new car, the newly designed 2013 Altima and their second generation CVT transmission.

With the V6, that thing was so quick really a great car.......for 2,300 miles until it shat that second gen Jatco CVT all over the road.

On day 46 of it sitting in the dealership I called and initiated the lemon law buyback and I've never seriously looked at a Nissan again.

So I totally understand how it spoils the brand for you.

I believe the O/P had a lazy or clueless dealer. Just before covid my cousins Ford car puked water everywhere. Manufacturer did not have a replacement engine. Dealership searched dealership parts inventory and found a new engine in the southeast and had it flown to the central coast of Calif. My cousin had the car back in under 2 weeks. I have also heard of dealerships pulling parts from existing vehicle inventory to prevent a lemon law buyback.

Dang, I thought multiple different problems with unsuccessfully attempts to fix were required to use lemon law. This seems way too easy. One problem with only one attempted and failed fix.
Business days down is a huge factor. Parts can be tough to get on new models sometimes after the covid nightmare. It’s a tough situation. I would not have jumped on the loss so quickly.

So the dealer will likely buy it back park it in the corner of the lot for a few weeks until the parts come in, then sell it at $5K over MSRP, right? Seems like a win for the dealer.
Exactly.

. The dealer would pull from stock vehicles if they had any stock vehicles. Those trucks are like running into a Sasquatch family reunion in the wilderness.

I’m not going to drive with a CEL.
You have never owned a Land Rover then.... the only way to drive a Land Rover is with the check engine light on. I am more concerned when it is not on than when it is on.

So did Ford actually buy back the vehicle or did the Better Business Bureau just say they are working on your behalf? The screen shot @Clarkdonbran provided just looks like a generic automated message from the BBB.

The only thing dealers have in stock now is stuff nobody wants. ;)

OP, sorry to hear about the trouble with your Maverick. Just count yourself lucky, in Canada there are no lemon laws, if that happened to me I'd be up a creek without a paddle.

This all just seems strange to me. I'd be pissed that it was taking so long to fix, but the last thing I'd want to have happen is to have my truck being declared a lemon and my money returned....and be forced to start the entire order process all over again. I'd be screaming to get it fixed, but with a loaner, I'd still rather wait and get a truck I love returned to me.

I hope OP lawyered up. I know someone that got a lawyer and lemon lawed their Honda Accord and they got to keep the car (worked fine, keyless entry didn't work sometimes and dealer couldn't fix) AND got a check for $14k for their troubles, lol.
