I have used CRC GDI intake valve cleaner on my wife's 2015 GDI Honda CRV every 10,000 miles. Spray it thru the brake booster vacuum line on the intake while keeping rpm around 2000. I think it works well. I have a Mav hybrid so I don't know where on the Ecoboost engine you

Might be a good thing to do, can't hurt.
Definitely a good idea and will help. Catch can to catch blow by will help also. Carbon build up is just an inherent downside to a direct injection engine. After awhile it will impact power. It's pretty noticeable on my RS4, probably not as much on an economy turbocharged motor. Would be interesting to shove a borascope down into the head and check it out at different mileage intervals.

This is only for non-turbo charged engines!!! It will ruin the turbo on an ecoboost.

Buy certified clean fuel (known as "top-tier fuel). No, you do not ever need premium fuel, unless you really need the extra 5hp that it will give you for some weird reason. I've never had to blow out the carbon, add crap to the fuel, or any other additives. The 2.0 EcoBoost engine in my 2013 Fusion does not build up carbon like some other manufacturers inferior products. Don't listen to anyone telling you this misinformation, and just drive it.

Ford recommends premium when you will be towing or hauling heavy loads. Otherwise, Regular gas will be sufficient for day-to-day driving. Also, note that any fuel additives to clean the head/valves, etc will not work on GDI (Direct Injection Systems) like our Ecoboost Engines.
Exactly right. No matter what additives you use on a direct injection engine, no benefits will result, because the gas is injected directly onto the piston, with none reaching the back of the valves. Valves will end up with carbon buildup, usually at 50-60k miles. Manufactures do this to gain maybe 1 mpg. Toyota is the only one who goes through the expense of having an injector spray the valves, plus the direct injector.

I'm sorry but with a 10:1 compression ration on a boosted motor will definitely retard timing to prevent pre-detonation of the fuel mixture with 87 octane. Your ECU is going to have to work extra hard to prevent knocking and your motor going boom. You will have a decrease in power as the otto-cycle is not running close to efficiency. I don't care who is building the DI motor, you will have carbon buildup. Its a design compromise that is just inherent in a direct injection motor.

Geez, using that line of thought, the hybrid at 13:1 compression should fall over after a week of operation. Clearly that is not the case. If your ECU cannot manage the fuel mixture properly just because it is retarding under load, then there is something seriously wrong with either your ECU design or the combustion chamber geometry. E.g: BMW and Mini engines are famous for carboning up, and you do have to clean them out regularly. Unless you are at no load at the redline, modern engines are always retarding the ignition, usually by at least 30 degrees. The only reason that Toyota (and Volkwagon and the larger Ford engines do the intake injection instead of direct injection is that either its an old head design with no HPI port, or (e.g. the larger Ford and Toyota V6 engines) they do not have a high-pressure fuel rail and cannot do direct injection. Volkswagen only does the additional low-pressure injection to eliminate a deadspot in their mechanical-ECU fuel curve.

Maybe this CRC product will work.

Safe on Turbo and Super Charged Engines

GDI IVD® Intake Valve & Turbo Cleaner is effective on turbo, super-charged, and twin turbo systems. It will also work on engines with port fuel injection (PFI engine). It will not harm the oxygen sensor or catalytic converter.

I would not recommend spraying any solvent cleaner into a running the ecoboost engine unless you want to destroy the turbo.

Walnut blasting or manual scraping is the only method that works.
CRC claims it is safe for turbo engines. I do understand your reluctance though.

I always wondered about the turnover with the more expensive, higher octane fuels vs. 87 octane. I would think the more expensive fuels may be sitting in the tanks at gas stations much longer. Could the higher octane fuels degrade over time?

Does the fall under warranty?. Also, it sounds like head removal is not necessary, but only the valve cover.
