So let me ask something. Wasnt this part backordered because of a design change? Wouldnt that show Ford that the part is poorly designed and fails? Irregardless of warranty left .

That sucks especially with that expensive of a repair. I know many people don't like buying extended warranties but something many should consider for the Maverick, especially the Hybrid. Ford ESP is not extremely expensive. Just one repair like this could easily pay for the warranty.
It is expensive if you live in Florida. You can't get the Ford ESP from a Ford dealer out of state. You have to purchase it from a Florida dealership at a cost of over $2500. Flood or any other dealer can't sell you a Ford ESP if you live in Florida.

Yes, and? The number of times manufacturers update parts or now software on their cars because it didn't operate as designed is a large number. That doesn't mean they owe you a free repair. If it is an egregious failure then they often get recalled, or maybe there is a warranty extension offered to a specific component. But the owner and Ford are not at that point yet.

It takes a LOT for them to issue a recall sadly. Manufactures love to skirt around that. I hate FORD and wish I never bought this Maverick hybrid. Toyota and Honda wouldnt have released a product with this many issues out of the gate.

You may be right. But, I wouldn't hate Ford over it. But, this is a large part of why I want/wanted nothing to do with a hybrid. I know that package is very appealing to many people. But with 245/65R17 AT tires and aftermarket wheels I can still average 26mpg. And my truck has been mostly flawless. I can't ask for much more than that.

Well I unfortunately used the escape hybrid taxis in NY with 500-600k miles as proof the Ford hybrids can be reliable. My maverick is currently at dealer for another issue and the airbag recall. Last time they had it for 9 days , so far its been 9-10 days this time as well.

It doesn't. I am not saying you are this client, but it is shocking the number of people that buy a new car every ten years and never bring it to the dealer for service and then ask for out of warranty assistance. Factories will help people that show brand loyalty. Simply buying A car, and a low dollar one at that is not reason enough. Nobody got rich off of the sale of a Maverick.
Unfortunately there are some of us that are retired technicians from the industry that would rather use their own, (many) years of top level experience to do their own oil changes. If your not in the industry you don't realize the parameters the employer places on the lube techs with time constrains and in some places, it is the entry level job where you start "to see if you work out". Don't think you are going to have a top level experience tech changing your oil/filter in a relaxed setting, letting the crankcase completely drain the waste oil (hopefully at operating temperature [especially in the dead of winter]) .

Agreed. I do my own oil changes. Prior experiences. 1) you can check the oil level just after filling without running the engine to circulate through the filter and you don't need to wait for it to drain down to the pan either.-NOT. 2) They don't need to put in the proper oil weight "because when you think about it they are the same" - NOT. 3) Your tech pulled down the hose for the fill marked with the wrong weight. " No, he knows what he is doing". Tech, "I used that one". Well that is the wrong oil. 4) you need to use channel locks to unscrew the oil fill. Sorry I chewed up your oil cap. So these were 4 different shops (not Ford however) over 10 years or so when I thought I would try it again. I just go back to doing it myself. Sorry, that makes me a bad, unloyal Ford customer.

After spending too much time reading this post, I suggest to the OP & any others who may experience this problem, is to not replace the heat exchanger, & if it is leaking coolant remove the 2 coolant hoses from it & use a hose barb to connect them. Let the next owner or a dealer its traded to, replace it. The exception to this would be if it causes a failed emissions inspection because of a CEL.

Hopefully someone will figure out how to bypass code, if needed.

Out of warranty? Bumper to bumper, yes. I’m not out of powertrain or hybrid warranty for a while. There has been other cases where this was covered under the powertrain warranty. I’ll update if anything changes.
Is the "battery power low" warning you got at 20k miles related to the hybrid system? If so, what you want to establish is that the dealer missed this early sign or misdiagnosed the heat exchanger issue at 20k miles when it WAS under warranty. Can others on this forum help point you to this as a "known issue" with Ford hybrid systems used in the Mav? Also, very carefully read the hybrid system warranty to find if the component is specifically excluded. If not, approach it as included. I would have this repaired, correspond with Ford and keep records of the correspondence. Then file a small claims or justice court action [depending on your state] serving both FOMOCO by mail and the dealer in an attempt to recover your out of pocket costs.

The biggest boost to your legal claim is if others on this forum can steer you to official Ford memos, service bulletins and similar documents indicating this as a known issue. Sure, it will take some of your time but filing such a claim is a good educational experience in standing up for yourself as a consumer. Ford CEO Jim Farley stated he wants to cut down on the costs related to QC - quality control issues. He didn't say how he intended to accomplish this. Improving the quality of components or stiff-arming consumers? Ford Motor annual gross profit for 2022 was $23.66B, a 9.08% increase from 2021.

I have had my 2022 Maverick since 4/2023 and I got the code ar the beginning of April. I am a mechanic and read the code as the heat exchanger. I called the dealer and told them I had 20k+ miles and they said it was under warranty. I took it in today and they said sure enough it was the heat exchanger and that it was in fact covered by the warranty and ordered the part to be replaced free of charge when it arrives in about two weeks. The dealership told me I'm the 8th maverick to come in with this problem, so it seems to be a faulty part. Don't know why your dealership didn't honor your warranty, but I would complain directly to Ford corporate. I've had nothing but good service from my dealership, Dwane Lane's Skagit Ford.

The OP has 38K miles and is beyond the basic warranty. The heat exchanger apparently is not covered under the 100K hybrid component warranty. Look earlier in the thread. I still think that Ford should cover this as it seems to be a frequently defective part.

Well, I do feel bad for you. Then again, at 36,001 miles, you are OUT OF WARRANTY. So, while it would be awesome if Ford would step up to the plate and take care of you, they are not obligated to do so. And while your frustration is understandable, it is what it is.

Buying an extended warranty, or not buying one, is a gamble. Either way, there's a 50 percent chance you wasted money. If you buy the extended warranty and never need a major repair, you lost. If you don't buy the extended warranty and do have a major repair, you lost.

We all have to decide which side of that gamble we want to be on when the time comes.
With all the non-durable technology in autos today, the three year replacement plan would be best.

Tough to show brand loyalty when you purchased a new vehicle that requires $1500 in repairs just outside of the warranty period.

Loyalty goes both ways.
Yep, another F for Ford.
