It is expensive if you live in Florida. You can't get the Ford ESP from a Ford dealer out of state. You have to purchase it from a Florida dealership at a cost of over $2500. Flood or any other dealer can't sell you a Ford ESP if you live in Florida.
Yes, and? The number of times manufacturers update parts or now software on their cars because it didn't operate as designed is a large number. That doesn't mean they owe you a free repair. If it is an egregious failure then they often get recalled, or maybe there is a warranty extension offered to a specific component. But the owner and Ford are not at that point yet.
It takes a LOT for them to issue a recall sadly. Manufactures love to skirt around that. I hate FORD and wish I never bought this Maverick hybrid. Toyota and Honda wouldnt have released a product with this many issues out of the gate.
You may be right. But, I wouldn't hate Ford over it. But, this is a large part of why I want/wanted nothing to do with a hybrid. I know that package is very appealing to many people. But with 245/65R17 AT tires and aftermarket wheels I can still average 26mpg. And my truck has been mostly flawless. I can't ask for much more than that.
Well I unfortunately used the escape hybrid taxis in NY with 500-600k miles as proof the Ford hybrids can be reliable. My maverick is currently at dealer for another issue and the airbag recall. Last time they had it for 9 days , so far its been 9-10 days this time as well.
Unfortunately there are some of us that are retired technicians from the industry that would rather use their own, (many) years of top level experience to do their own oil changes. If your not in the industry you don't realize the parameters the employer places on the lube techs with time constrains and in some places, it is the entry level job where you start "to see if you work out". Don't think you are going to have a top level experience tech changing your oil/filter in a relaxed setting, letting the crankcase completely drain the waste oil (hopefully at operating temperature [especially in the dead of winter]) .
Agreed. I do my own oil changes. Prior experiences. 1) you can check the oil level just after filling without running the engine to circulate through the filter and you don't need to wait for it to drain down to the pan either.-NOT. 2) They don't need to put in the proper oil weight "because when you think about it they are the same" - NOT. 3) Your tech pulled down the hose for the fill marked with the wrong weight. " No, he knows what he is doing". Tech, "I used that one". Well that is the wrong oil. 4) you need to use channel locks to unscrew the oil fill. Sorry I chewed up your oil cap. So these were 4 different shops (not Ford however) over 10 years or so when I thought I would try it again. I just go back to doing it myself. Sorry, that makes me a bad, unloyal Ford customer.
Is the "battery power low" warning you got at 20k miles related to the hybrid system? If so, what you want to establish is that the dealer missed this early sign or misdiagnosed the heat exchanger issue at 20k miles when it WAS under warranty. Can others on this forum help point you to this as a "known issue" with Ford hybrid systems used in the Mav? Also, very carefully read the hybrid system warranty to find if the component is specifically excluded. If not, approach it as included. I would have this repaired, correspond with Ford and keep records of the correspondence. Then file a small claims or justice court action [depending on your state] serving both FOMOCO by mail and the dealer in an attempt to recover your out of pocket costs.
The OP has 38K miles and is beyond the basic warranty. The heat exchanger apparently is not covered under the 100K hybrid component warranty. Look earlier in the thread. I still think that Ford should cover this as it seems to be a frequently defective part.
With all the non-durable technology in autos today, the three year replacement plan would be best.
