Shimmy/Wobble

I have a 2022 Lariat AWD 2.0 EcoBoost with ~900 miles that has an intermittent slight low speed wobble. In doing a search here I haven’t seen much on this issue so I thought maybe a thread specific to this topic would help. The shimmy seems to be more prevalent between 20-30 mph. It’s not a vibration like an out of balance tire nor is it a steering wheel wobble. It’s felt more in the seat and floor than in the steering wheel. Dealership couldn’t replicate the shimmy so they checked the rear wheel balance and sent me on my way. The tire pressures were all at 44psi so I lowered to 35psi. No real difference.

I’ve seen on a couple of threads here where some were having a similar problem where a lift had been added. Some dealers were blaming the aftermarket lift, but when the lift was removed the problem remained. My truck has no lift. One dealer found a “warped drive” and ordered parts but at this time the poster wasn’t sure what parts were order for the repair.

Is anyone having a similar issue?

I have not had this problem. EB with 6k Miles.

However, I do recall that the "shimmy/wobble" was quite a dance craze in the 60's!

Here are a few videos that show movement and the clunking noise I'm experiencing. The first two are a comparison in movement of the inner CV (where it connects to transmission). The Driver's side (where I'm experiencing the clunking noise and wobble) and the passenger side (with no noise or wobble). The last three are me pulling on the top of the tire (12 o'clock) with my foot at the bottom of the tire (6 o'clock). When I do the same on the passenger side, I do not get any movement or noise.

IIRC some have found loose driveshaft bolts.

Would a loose driveshaft bolt cause movement where the CV connects to the transmission

There's a slight shimmying/wobble on mine as soon as I let off the gas...not great. This is probably the issue.

A little update. I’ve been contacted by a Ford Motor Co. Support Manager. They spoke to my local Ford dealership and have scheduled an appointment for me to go in on 3/1. I’ll post results.

I’m in contact with someone from Ford’s social media team that has opened a case. I have also been in contact with my dealer. I’ll keep you updated as I get more information.

I don’t know if I replied here or not, but my hybrid had an issue with the transmission mount that is causing it to shimmy if I put load on the engine. Most noticeable passing on the highway.

My dealer has ordered a part to replace. They didn’t say it wasn’t drivable in the meantime.

Took the Maverick in on Tuesday 2/28 for a drive and they did feel the shimmy so I left the truck there. Got a call from the Ford Support Manager on 3/1 with a case number and to see how things went. Today is Thursday 3/2 and service writer says they have been in contact with Ford and are still trying to determine cause. I’m not sure what they have tried so far. Ford Manager is to check in with me on Friday. So bottom line is they are trying but haven’t yet found cause.

I’m taking mine in on 3/17 to have it looked over. My hunch is that it’s a bad case bushing, which is causing the movement shown in the video I posted (above in thread). This video shows similar movement/symptoms on a Tacoma where the needle bearing (similar to case bearing) needed to be replaced.
