The only thing scarier I have experienced while driving than the death wobble in my 96 Cherokee (steering damper was shot) was realizing I was on black ice about 1/4 mile down a 2 1/2 mile hill in my old Ford Courier. Clench those cheeks and relax everything else...you've definitely never driven a Jeep with the death wobble if that's what you call the vibration from a failing cv joint or an out-of-balance tire.
DW is probably a misnomer in this case. If it's me, I do a visual check of the CV axles and boots for leaks from the boots or clamps. Look at the suspension components. Use gloves and check for play in the shafts and linkages. I also look at how muddy the wheels are inside and if they need to be cleaned and/or rebalanced. 10/09 is a ways out.Nope, I haven’t. Just quoting the many others with the same issue and what they’re also calling it.
I call them "Tank Slappers" and have only experienced it on motorcycles (over 50 years of driving under my belt). Here we go….
‘22 XLT AWD Ecoboos, 50k miles. Death wobble began recently at 40-50mph and am learning that CV Joints are an issue.
Message sent to Ford service department. Looking forward to hearing from them tomorrow!
I'm gonna use my points to get an oil change at the dealership and have them check everything out. What else should they be looking for?DW is probably a misnomer in this case.
