Why would Toyota build a truck that they make less on than the Tacoma which they are selling all that they can make ?
Well, they ARE making a compact truck. It's been documented. Not making it up. So they must see a good reason.

My local dealer has some 60+ Tacoma's on the lot. Not sure if they are moving as well as they like. Rav4's hybrids are being sold as fast they can build them. Plenty of ICE RAV4s on the lot though.

I did a search on Toyotas site for trucks in my area ( Nashville ) and there are three in 100 miles. The MPG certainly doesnt help

Not to argue with you BUT ..... Where did you see any documentation from Toyota stating they would be building a Rav 4 pickup ? Yeah tons of speculation however all blowing smoke at this point.

Brand loyalty. Same as the Maverick. Sell a truck to people who otherwise wouldn't consider a truck and then hook them into the brand. That way when they go to replace the low-profit truck, they just might consider a more profitable model.

I haven't actually seen any evidence Toyota is doing that. I'm just saying I would not be surprised. As we all know, brand loyalty in trucks is huge and Toyota isn't going to give that up to Ford when they already struggle to match the F-150's sales numbers.

Ah, the "not to argue, BUT..." guy, who initially replied in order to argue a point. Great. Point is, there WILL be strong competitors to the Maverick soon.

perhaps the soonest competition will be a hybrid Santa Cruz? Why not, that package just needs to be transferred over to a current vehicle.

While you can say what you want about me , your claim "WILL be" and soon ?? Really ? Any idea how long it takes to create a new model from concept to rolling off the assembly line In the US Canada or Mexico ( due to the chicken tax ) The Rav 4 is made in Kentucky and Canada and those plants are running Rav4s as fast as they can .... Claims of a competitor from Kia, Toyota, Dodge all just blowing smoke. So again, not to ARGUE but do you have ANY proof of your claim "WILL be" and soon ??

Here are photos of trucks "rumored" to be coming to America - not one has actually been announced as actually being built. Hyundai isnt even making a hybrid so they really only compete with the Ecoboost.

Strange that there are so many in the philly area available and they wouldn't be distributed to the Nashville area.

I know it's "only" been 6 months since my order was confirmed, but I'm once again finding myself becoming impatient with Ford. I have no brand loyalty to Ford, mostly due to past reliability issues. I can count on one hand how many Toyotas I saw broke down on the highway in the past 20 years. Ford, I lost count... For Ford to presume we're the lucky ones waiting for a prized Maverick, they're overconfident. I'm not convinced it'll be a prize. It's not going to beat a Toyota in terms of reliability, I can confidently say that, having owned several. As time goes on, people like me will consider-and will-drop off. Ford doesn't care, it has its fleet orders and brand loyalists. I'm not one of them. I'm more loyal to US manufacturing, and the Maverick ain't built in Michigan or Alabama. However, if the US can't make a quality truck in a reasonable time, I'll go back to Toyota who can.

If you sell enough of the cheaper ones you can easily make up for the difference.

It could just be the area you are in that supposedly have no Tacomas. In my region, I did a 100mile radius. 25 brand new Mavericks. 56 brand new Rangers.... and...wait for it... 283 brand new Tacomas.

There are a lot of factors that could be at play... but pushing 300 brand new Tacomas in my region...I would have to assume they are not selling them as fast as some think. Just my $0.02

My dealer group has 31 Mavericks across the state. But all of them are accounted for. My specific dealer is down to 6.

Yeah, my dealer has(d) 2 as of yesterday evening, but I assume with ridiculous ADM. Website only stated the MSRP....which I assume they cant be selling them at. But some people want them that bad and will pay extra.

Ford can't afford to lose fleet orders; they'd rather disappoint a consumer or two. They care less if they lose a few of us, but a few fleet orders would have a greater negative impact to their bottom line. That's my two cents trying to find logic in Ford's actions.
This is right on the money and is true in all fields. If you made widgets, would you prioritize the customer who bought one or the one who bought two hundred. If you were a building contractor’ would you focus on two individuals vs. a development of 200 homes. Also, who gets attention from financial world - the guy who has $5 million invested, or the little guy who has $10,000 invested? I know it sucks and is unfair, but the cold hard facts of economics do prevai., creating pain for the little guy.
