I'm no stranger to hybrid brakes; the transition between regen to actual brakes and what that feels like. I've driven hybrids for years. However, the brakes on my hybrid maverick seem odd. In most situations I chalk it up to the fact that every car is a little different and that's fine. But in one particular situation I feel like the brakes are dangerous.

If I'm in stop/go traffic or at a stop light and barely have my foot on the brake, it's enough to keep the car stopped. When I take my foot off the brake, (don't apply any gas pedal) and I go to quickly reapply the brake it's like nothing engages for the first 20%-30% of the break push...way past where I just had my foot when the truck was stopped. The brakes eventually engage but they go from 0% to 100% and the truck dips forward because of the harshness of the brakes. I'm afraid one of these times I'm going to roll into the back of the car in front of me.

Is this a hybrid brake thing? Does anyone else experience this?
Have had my mav for just about a month now, and I have experienced the same exact brake characteristics. From my very first drive, I felt the brakes were very “touchy”, and that I would get used to them, but the slow speed issues as you described to a tee persist. I found a video that addresses the issue (I googled it soon as I experienced it) and apparently Ford is aware and working on a fix. Coincidentally I rode in a friends year-old Toyota RAV4 hybrid a few weeks ago, and experienced none of the brake issues we are discussing. I’m enjoying the incredible mpg’s but the brakes not so much.

Hi I bought my maverick in October 2022 , in the first week I had this happen 2 times And 3 more sometime after that(there is only 260 miles on it now 2/23). This is the fully loaded first edition with 360 lane control. I believe this may have something to do with the problem.
I have 2012 escape hybrid 205k miles it has mild Transition between hydraulic and electric braking, the maverick is a little scary.
This is one of the times first week,my wife a I were headed home we turn on a street that’s down hill 1/2 mile the truck was on electric stop at the bottom turn 1
50’ stop at gate pad pulled forward 25’ stop close atgate as it opened ,not sure if I let a little pressure off the brake pedal or not but we rolled forward a foot with no feeling of brakes my foot went down a 1” or so than the brake in gauged making loud clunk jerking us forward,my yelled at me what are doing, I said it just did it on it own. Again when was pulling into my drive there was our other car just to left. Another was going up hill and stop at a light with a car to the right.the others just coming to stop. I try to get it do do this but couldn’t (again only 260 miles on it so basically not driven)
I brought it back the first week to have the salesman Jason help me set up my phone to the truck,I told him about the braking and he said it’s probably switching between electric and hydraulic, the truck mostly sat in my driveway
because it was bought as a tow vehicle for my rv.
How ever once it started raining late December early January the sunroof was leaking and its been at the dealer since 1/13/23 today is 2/21/23 .I asked them to check the brakes and the leak.they torn the hole interior apart with no fix for the leak the brake issues has not really been addressed ,I have ask them to take the truck back.

22 hybrid. I had the soft ware update completed today at Nick Nicholas Ford in Inverness, Fla.It improved the braking at low speed significantly.

Any word on an update with this problem yet?
I fixed mine. Sold it for $8000 more than I paid for it and bought something reliable. Maybe a few years from now I'll try another. For now, Ford has released the hybrid with way too many problems and often no good fixes.
