Manual Transmission. If it was offered, would you choose a Standard?

Would you have ordered with a manual transmission?

Manual transmission in my toy/weekend warrior car? Absolutely! I far prefer the visceral fun of driving my six speed Vette to an automatic, even if today's autos shift far more effectively than I ever could.

Manual transmission in my daily driver though? Nope, absolutely ZERO interest in that.
Sold my 03 Z06 for 06 auto.

Since I am all in with the Hybrid my vote is NO.
It is possible but would require a lot of redesigning.. the original Civic Hybrid came with a manual, but it was almost a completely different system from what I understand.

Owned a 2015 Honda Fit EX with CVT transmission that had a Sport Mode Feature and these Paddle toggles on the steering column to manually change shifting to simulate what the old style manual transmissions did.

Never ever used them.
Completely different than a manual transmission in my opinion, I can't stand paddle shifters.

It's the control I like. Every gear had a use.....to this day I am deterred at most autos for not shifting to my standards.
Agreed! Its gotten better with the amount of gears and how quickly they shift... but I can't stand when I round a corner driving an auto and its still stuck in 3rd gear when I try to accelerate (assuming is a 4 speed). Hoping the Maverick doesn't have this issue.

No. Can drive a manual if I need to though.
Too many issues with legs/feet. Makes driving a
manual a bit harder on me!

Have stick shift in our old chevy when I want to have fun and hoon around. For a DD automatic is just more relaxing plus my wife can only drive automatic. Which was fun when we first got married and she moved to Scotland...we went looking for a used car and had a choice of basically 1 car in central Scotland that was an auto...a sexy Vauxhall Astra...

Definitely tons of people have done that exact thing.

I always far preferred the looks of the C5Z to any other Vette but always kinda yearned for a C6Z until I rode in one.

C6Z was definitely faster and more refined but not nearly as raw and fun to drive, and that was comparing manuals; an auto C6 woulda prolly made it even worse for me.

Of course, I cut my automotive teeth taking rattletrap Fox body Mustangs down the 1/4 at on ET Streets, so I apparently have a bit of a penchant for vehicles that feel like they're on the brink of falling apart.:ROFLMAO:

You are all missing the point of manual tras today....they are a millennial anti theft device!
When did driving become such a chore??? Driving a stick means you have to watch your speed,distance,etc.. you are engaged with the vehicle, the road...not your phone. Also I love watching videos of would be thieves jumping in a vehicle, seeing it is a stickshift, throwing up their hands and running away...sooo funny!!!

I've always been a huge fan of manual transmissions. I learned in one, my first car was one and always had a manual in my garage for fun duties. My current daily driver is one, but sadly, probably my last.

I 100% agree that modern auto transmissions are not even a shadow of how horrible they were in the past. You can actually have fun with an automatic transmission these days. But, it is also my perception that manufacturers are messing up modern manual transmission designs to push us away from them. I've slowly lost the love for manual transmissions and not looking forward to it anymore. It surely doesn't help that the highest demand is for automatics, so no reason to improve something for the minority.

In 2017 I bought a manual Forester, which I expected to be my AWD warrior for the years to come. I could not stand it the full year. The rev hang, short throws and neutered experience frustrated me every time I drove it.

Then in 2018 I got me a BMW M2, manual of course. SUPER FUN car to drive - as expected. But then I drove the DCT version in an autocross event and it was much better match for the engine and the task.

My daily is a 320i manual. It is fun, but having driven the auto versions of the same car, I know I'm missing out on the smooth and efficient ride the autos provide.

Unbelievably to some, my last fun manual vehicle was a 2006 Corolla S. Seems modern engines are designed to match its automatic counterparts. And manual transmissions are an afterthought.

This Maverick will be my daily, so I want comfort and relax. Automatic will be perfect.

Nope.

I enjoy driving a manual, but this one is all about the hybrid and the eCVT.

With absolutely zero hesitation yes. I wouldn't even care if they made it a premium trim option only. Usually I want a base model with a manual if possible since I hate HATE fancy gadgets but Id take the hit for whatever trim they made it on.

Far more reliable and simpler to work on while being a heap more fun. Literally no downsides.

Owned a 2000 ranger XLT with the 3.0L 6 cylinder and a manual transmission. Great truck.
I currently drive a 2017 VW Jetta with a manual.

I love the idea of one, and will miss not having one. But a hybrid makes more sense. Even if they made one for the Maverick it would doubtlessly be mated to the turbo rather than the hybrid. So no interest from me! I will miss having one sometimes, but I got used to it when I had a F150. I can do so again.

As a Hybrid? Auto all the way.
Gas-only? I would consider a manual if it was an option. It would be definite with the AWD/FX4 options.

The New Bronco has a manual transmission option for an 7 speed...7. back when you had 4 or 5, it was tolerable. Now, it's just way too much.

Optional paddle shifters for off road? Sure, but still want an automatic for daily driving.
To be fair, the Bronco is a 6 speed manual with a crawling gear that is useless for anything in daily driving. I have a car with a 6 speed manual, I do find myself skipping a few gears while driving.

I'm curious how many people would have gone with a good ole' fashion manual transmission if Ford offered it with the Maverick.

I love driving stick and contribute my love of cars to being taught how to drive a stick when I was young. I was curious how it worked and the more I learned the more interested I was. But now I'm in my late 20s and have to drive the same boring route every day, manual is becoming more of a chore (especially in traffic). I'd much rather have my fun car be a manual and my daily be an Auto. Luckily Ford is still putting them in Mustangs and Bronco's, but I can see that disappearing soon.

What do you think?
A stick in traffic are you nuts? An lady friend had a stick Mustang,I drove it once, give me an automatic anytime!!!

Would like a manual to be available. Love the interactions, the skill of matching revs and having something to do with your left foot and the extra hand which most folks will have a phone in it.
