Nothing - waiting on my Maverick!
Engine
Undecided
So I'll keep a long story short here. I waited well over a year to get my hybrid XLT Maverick, and due to a dealer's mistake, my order was not transferred over to 2023 and I lost my place in line. They apologized profusely to me, and said that unfortunately there was nothing they could do now other than give my $1000 down payment back.

They called me this morning and said they had a similar XLT on the lot that someone changed their mind and didn't want, and they wanted to offer it to me first. Only downside is, it's a gas engine, and the hybrid engine was 90% of why I wanted the Maverick in the first place. I have been borrowing a family car since I sold mine to "buy" a Maverick, so I will need another car soon, regardless.

Here's my question : although the eco-boost Maverick is probably not what I want in the long term, I am tempted to buy it because even though it's $30k (a few options that I didn't have on mine), they seem to keep way more of the resell value than other cars. Should I just buy it since it has so much resale potential? I could drive it until either a hybrid becomes available or I love it so much I decide to keep it.

Thoughts?

Are they asking MSRP for the Ecoboost?

Unless you’re in one of SC’s big cities…I believe you’ll do well getting the EcoBoost at MSRP or less, or some special perks to offset price difference from HEV to Gas engine.

Bird in the hand, and sort the rest out later.

It's a tough call. I think I'd have a genuine conversation with the dealer and ask them to keep you at the head of the line for the next HYBRID that becomes available. Honestly, at the end of the day there are two things... listen to your gut, and try to get the vehicle you really want. I know for me I had zero interest in the ECOBoost so for me that'd be a non-starter.

Resale value definitively won't be as it is much longer. If you need a vehicle, can afford this one, really like the Maverick in general (regardless of engine), and the dealer is offering sans-markup.... Go for it!

Since you don’t have a vehicle, this is a no-brainer. Take the ā€œBird in the Handā€! Don’t be fooled into thinking that you will get another opportunity without a considerable wait or additional expense.

I suspect I would seriously consider this if I needed a vehicle. However the sympathetic dealer cost you the $2750 hybrid rollover payment. I would ask him to split the difference and sell it to you for $1375 BELOW MSRP...

No brainer, get the Ecoboost if it's for MSRP. Good chance if your order had gone through it wouldn't have been built anyway.

So they boned up and now you missed out on the truck you wanted AND the private offer that would've come with said order. Yeah I'd be ticked. At least they're trying to make it right in some way I guess. I doubt the Ecoboost will keep the profit making resale value that went on last year so I wouldn't count on it when making a decision.

Dang, if a rollover hybrid has a good chance of not being built, where does that leave Sept hybrid orders???? Oops, forgot, some of them have already been built!!! o_O

Take it. Our EB gets around 30 mpg, our Hybrid was just over 40.

It's not that big of a difference over the course of a year. For us, probably $30/month.

Plus the EB is much more powerful and more fun.

I’d agree if hybrids ever got refused. They’re truly hard to get.

For myself, my initial 10/13/21 order was hybrid XLT lux that was never built. When order banks opened in September I went EB so that I could get a Maverick. I don’t actually even really need the truck as my old Ranger keeps going and I don’t have to go to the office everyday like I used to. For me the hybrid and its amazing MPG became less of a priority and 250 HP sounded pretty fun, along with the 4K towing and light off roading capability with FX4.

To OP, go check it out. Take it for a ride. If you’re borrowing a car it sounds like you need some wheels and you could do much much worse than a gas powered Maverick.

Someday all of this madness will end šŸ¤ž and you’ll have a good trade in for exactly what you want.

I realize it's not the hybrid you wanted, but your gonna need some vehicle if understand. As others have said "Bird in the Hand". You can always sell it yourself or trade it in on a hybrid if and whenever that time may come. Their's a strong market for any version maverick (better market for hybrid). I absolutely love my Eco-boost, solid as a rock, none of all the current hybrid issues people talking about. In my driving in he suburbs community I getting mid 20's mpg and mid 30's on hwy (i have no complaints with that - mine is AWD and 4K towing so that hurts the mpg a little but your know planning to keep it only until a hybrid is available
Buy the Eco Boost and try to get them to lower the price some -you will like the truck I know
GO BUY THAT ECO BOOST TRUCK AS FAST AS YOU CAN

I needed a vehicle, too, just couldn't wait for the eventual preferred Hybrid. Now we have one of each.

Don't discount the EcoBoost, it is an amazing vehicle. It is really fun to drive and is still quite economical.
