My Escape does this as well. From what I have been able to ascertain, the car never "fully" turns off. So, it'll flip relays and valves whenever the computer thinks it should.. for whatever reason.

This is likely the reason we get those "deep sleep" messages if the vehicle isn't driven for several days in a row.

My EB makes some sort of clicking noises coming from the engine compartment when I open the door. I can only hear it in the garage when I haven't driven it since the day before, never makes noises any other time, sounds like solenoids clicking, I wonder if it isn't closing the shutters right before a cold start.

My EB does the random clicking too. I’ve had it happen when under it changing the oil and while on jack stands changing the wheels……..stops your heart for a second when that happens 😆

If you have the Hybrid version these noises are normal. Mine does the same. Not to worry.

Read the book 1984 and you will learn all you need to know about the clicking sounds. Your truck is down loading all your data when you shut the engine down. When you open the door it is getting prepared to to record your activity. Don’t go someplace you don’t want your wife to know about without turning off your location service. Your Maverick can tell her and the rest of the known world.

While the EB version may make some noises after shutdown, the hybrid version is quite the chatterbox. I have a hybrid Sienna in addition to the Maverick. Both go through a series of shutdown procedures, making all kinds of weird noises. One of them happens hours after shutdown, which I've been told is a pump moving still warm antifreeze into an insulated container to help speed up the warm-up process at the next start. Don't know if that's true, but it does sound like a pump running.

These are certainly the noisiest "dormant" vehicles I've ever heard. It's crazy all the buzzing & clicking going on randomly as it sits.

I'd assume it's part of the battery management system keeping tabs on all the systems that stay live even when shut down, along with the emissions/evap systems when starting & stopping. (mine is EB)

Hybrid yes? If so, normal, hybrids just do that stuff. There are electric brake boosters and electric ABS motors, these power up and down at various intervals, and the inverter charges the 12v battery, not sure if or how long it does this once you power off the vehicle though.

EB? No idea.
My '23 is doing this as well, and the truck has not been driven in two days, so it's not the exhaust cooling. I think it's communicating with someone or someTHING in the Andromeda Galaxy. Probably discussing why Ford doesn't ditch all-electric vehicles and stick to hybrids so they stop losing $60,000 for every electric vehicle sold. Yeah, you read that right, look it up.

Mine does too. Just sits there clickety-clacking. Maybe that's why our batteries go dead lol. My Chevy Bolt also makes noises, but usually its a gurgling sound which I assume is the cooling system for the battery.

Thanks! That's inspiration for a new county music hit song. Something about trucks, bars, and cheating.

Many new vehicles do this. My last three have done it. They never go dormant unless you don't drive it for a few weeks.

This is not a complaint thread. I'm just purely curious about the noises my truck makes. I hear it doing stuff, it's making noises when it's parked in my garage and the doors are locked. My key fob is in the house.

I hear mechanical sounds like popping and clicking.

What is it doing?

I don't know why I find this so funny.
Maybe it want's to go for a ride.
Maybe it is trying to escape.
I'm not concerned because it's not the first time it has done this.
I just want to know what it's doing.

Anyone know?
Thanks.
Mine does it locked or unlocked. It seems like I just need to approach it in the garage and it will start clicking.

I'm in the same boat here too.

Could it be the dash cam?

I notice it when I'm walking around the truck. I'll be in my garage tinkering on something, and every few minutes the truck starts doing the clicking.

One thought was I have the motion capture / parking mode thing enabled on the dash cam, so maybe the dash cam is seeing my motion, and turning itself on... it turning itself on is triggering the truck to turn on to feed it power?

Idk...

Clicking are electronic relays turning off and on various modules and vehicle systems.
