curious about credit card size slot

There is a slot in the area where the driving modes are located
It is exactly the size of a credit card
does anyone know what the purpose is??

It is there to place your credit card when you are going for gas, or using it from your car at a drive through

that is what i thought at first but then i thought it might be for some service applications

Here's my hypothesis: that "slot" was just a design curiosity and nothing more, and people are like "Hey I can fit a credit card in there! The feature I never knew I needed!"

Unless someone can point to its purpose in the owner's manual, I'm just gonna run with that.
