I got the gas tank size upgraded on my 2004 F150, but i don't recall a dual tank setup being an option. But it was a long time ago too it may have been and i just don't remember now.

Yeap, remember running the 1st tank down until the engine started missing, then switching over, hoping it would catch and keep running.

Used to drive the 16 hours/1000 miles between CHI and DFW, until blood clots/PE's hit me. Now it's a forced stop every 2 hours to walk around.

It sucks getting old,,, HRG

Been a Ford truck guy all my life:

1966 F100
1978 F250 XLT Supercrew w/dual tanks
2006 F150 XLT
2022 Maverick Lariat Hybrid (soon!)

I want to focus on the dual tanks. Just how cool would it be to have a dual tank system on the Hybrid, giving a person oh, 1000 range?
When I reserved my Area 51 in the beginning of August, I did ask my dealership if dual tanks was going to be available.
The answer was nope, and with a funny look like the kid thought I was from Mars.
So I started doing some research, and ....... my Phoenix metro area has a company that can install after market fuel systems.

Guess who I'll be talking to when I get that truck in my possession hehehe.

But curious, is this something that others have even thought of, considered, desired, or is it just me ???
I used to LOVE my duel tanks ... they were great Janke great question and yes 1000 miles would be great ...

It is a weird itch, but, it will also set this truck apart from others of it's kind. That's my thought.
The hybrid tank is what, 13.7 gal? Make that into 27.4 and you now have 1000 mile range and at a cost of about $74 at current local rates.
My thoughts in all this is 1 stop trips to the midwest to see family, from Arizona.
Guess I'll have to pan out the cost vs rewards on this thought.

Daydreaming - I haven't even sat in this thing yet!!!!!
Assuming you're doing 100 mph (and you won't be) you'd have to drive five hours to exhaust the tank. You're going to need a break before your truck does as it is.

If you're dead set about putting in dual tanks, do it. But realize that it's not about it being practical. Realize that it's about you wanting it.

I have a "cross country driving mode" that rivals old school truckers back in the day.
Stop for fuel, sleep when your trip is done LoL.
Duel tanks ..... get'r done!

Dual tanks were cool, having that manual switch to select between the 2 tanks.

What I'm looking forward to is someone figuring out how to boost its capability as an electric vehicle. It'd be nice to put in a small battery pack and charger, give it a minimal electric only range.

Could design a tank for the cubby in the bed and run fuel line underneath from it. Maybe 5 gallons?

Cool concept, however you run into the limitations of RPM / MPH limits, at least on a hybrid version.
My current Fusion Hybrid will not run via battery 1) if there is not enough stored charge 2) if you are exceeding 43 MPH. Even with the MPH factor, you must be on at least flat or downhill grade.
It's an acquired skill to maximize MPG on a fuel / Hybrid vehicle. A skill my wife will never acquire
haha!

I had a Jeep Grand Wagoneer from the 1980s -- bought it used and it came with two tanks the previous owner had put in. Totaled out at right about 50 gallons.

Sometimes I would let it get almost dry, then fill both tanks.

More than once I found people looking over my shoulder, watching the dials spin, and wondering where the hell the fuel was going. (Both fillers were in the same fuel door.)
Had an Econoline with dual tanks. I'd often use two different pumps to speed up the process. More than once I'd go in to find a panicked clerk looking for the drive-off, and very relieved when I'd say "Pumps 3 and 4".

Interesting, thanks for the info. This will be my first hybrid so much to learn in that department.

Yes, I miss them. My old work truck had dual tanks. I ran out of fuel once and was like "oh just flip the switch". Back in business...I think Ford had problems with them or something I read a long time ago. Otherwise I wish they'd bring them back.

Adding fuel adds weight so just remember that. I am not sure I would care to have that capacity anymore.

I once owned a 1981 VW diesel Rabbit. I put a second tank along the back of the hatch that had a 12-gallon capacity. I ran filtered Waste Vegetable oil in that one. I kept the standard tank under the back seat. Another 12 gallons.

At highway speeds, 55-65 it would get me 46-48 mpg all the time. So think of the capacity, 24 times 47 = over 1100 miles.

I love coffee and there is no way I could drive that long and not stop. But it was nice not to have to deal with stops for fuel. Just food and drink.

I think waiting for an aftermarket tank to come out that might be closer to 20 gallons would be the way to go. You could always hang a weather proof jerry can on the back like Jeeps do and have 5 or so for the road. It actually might trick the truck out kinda nice.

There is another reason to rethink this. Todays fuel: if you don't use it in a months time, expect it to deteriorate. Some of this may be compensated by stabilizer. If you don't drive about 1000 miles a month, ethenol enhanced fuels can separate and are corrosive.

Yeah, I think a lot of us are daydreaming. First, of those heated seats. Then, some way to sleep in the back for canoe camping trips.

What if I'm young and have to pee every three hours?
I tried avoiding cows milk/cheese 7 years ago and it worked for me with no issues since. Can't recall how long it took...maybe a month or 2 for the issue to go away. I now take calcium citrate (1,000 milligrams per day) as a source of calcium.
