Would you consider one? This is for an AWD EB by the way.

It's actually the only add on I got from Ford. After driving for 1 day on a donut in my current car I said F that I'll never have a donut again.

isn't the size is different than stock tires?

Got myself a full size spare as well. Planning on going on camping trips / light off-roading and having a full size spare is good peace of mind.

Also doesn’t seem it’s a constraint item. 🤞

I put one on my order. I don't tow a lot but do not want to have a trailer on and be stuck with a donut. Sounds likes it's not a constraint.

this is the size difference between the full sized spare and the oe xlt tire.

There are a few posts regarding the full sized spare. I believe I read a full sized, full sized spare ( no, this is not a typo😉) will not fit where the spare tire is stored under the truck without pinching some wires or letting some air out or something so it seems putting a REAL FULL SIZED SPARE WHERE IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE STORED is not possible. Soooooo the only option imo is getting the reduced full sized spare or keeping the donut. I opted for the available full sized spare since I don't want a tire sitting in my bed or back seat.

I dropped my non full size spare about a week ago and was pretty shocked how much smaller it was than a full size 225/65R17. The spare I have is 155/70D17. There is no way you can run a spare that much smaller on an AWD setup without risking major damage. Correct me if I'm wrong since it's my first "truck" with AWD and every AWD vehicle I've had in the past has used a much better spare tire.

Stock 225/R17 compared to the 155/70D17:

Ford Maverick Full size spare or not full size spare? Captur

Since I replace with 245/65R17's the difference is this now:

Ford Maverick Full size spare or not full size spare? 245

I've considered buying a full size steelie with a 245/65R17 but I may end up going with 235's after these KO2's I am currently running are done for, so what I'd really like to do is just keep the spare wheel and swap the tire for a 165/90R17. That would get me this:

Ford Maverick Full size spare or not full size spare? 165

I suspect this would be enough to limp home on without damage but I'm not sure. Can someone clarify the tolerance? I'd like to avoid grenading my RDU/PTU etc etc without having to spend triple the amount of a full size spare I'll likely never use. I do know how to use a tire patch kit and I have before, and I also carry a Dewalt 20V pump in the truck.

Here is what the 165/90R17 looks like compared to a 235/65R17:

Ford Maverick Full size spare or not full size spare? 235

I suspect that one is acceptable, but they don't make any 165/95R17's which would put me that much closer to the 245's, so that is as big as it would get for keeping the spare wheel. That is also assuming the added width even fits on the stock spare wheel of course.

Any advice would be appreciated. But for anyone ordering a new Maverick, I'd definitely get the full size spare option without question.

I don't think they should sell cars without a full size spare! It was a no brainer for me. I am disappointed reading this thread though and learning it's not an exact match with the existing tires, still better than a donut

I saw that too but I don't know how it works. I couldn't find any information on how to force it or make sure it's disabled. Any idea how the system knows when to disable?

I think the safest bet is to get a spare that is close to or exact size as the setup as I am running. I'm also a bit of an off the beaten path kinda driver so better safe than sorry. Still on the fence if I am getting a full size A/T for that reason or not. If I did it would likely just be a 235 off brand "cheapo" that is 3 peak rated just in case I need it in the winter. Cheapest setup I found was like $300 for the wheel and tire but if I just get a spare to match the size then it's only like $120.

Is your Mach-E AWD? I assume it's the same deal if it is.

Well...that's good. Unless you grenade your tire somewhere off-road and the AWD would be very helpful for getting out.

A real full size spare is the first upgrade I would make if you use the Maverick as an adventure vehicle.
