A few discussions about this already. Full size means it's not a donut spare. Tire size is smaller, but it's on a full size wheel.

Probably considered full in that it can handle the weight of payload or towing whereas the donut would only be rated for the truck being used as a car.

My old Subaru had a donut with AWD and it was fine for the short drive home and then to the tire shop. The open diffs in the Mav should help with this too.
short drive home for me might be 100 miles

It will adjust just fine. The AWD on the Maverick is not the same as 4x4 Low engagement of a Jeep Wrangler or something of the past.

Its more BS. "Technically" it is a "full size", but its not the same size. I just bought new tires and bought a new matching spare tire as well. The shop that put them on didn't even want the spare they took off for free, that's how shitty it is.

Knowing how stringent people/manufacturers are with keeping the same size/brand/model tires on all four wheels of an AWD so it doesn't mess up the AWD system makes me wonder why Ford did this. They spare isn't even the same height as the others. That makes me believe Ford is OK with mismatched tires on this truck.

On the XL, is the "full size" spare steel wheel the exact same as the steel wheels that come on it?

Since the Mav is a front-biased AWD, it might make sense to put the spare on the rear regardless of which tire goes out. Not sure if this is sound advice though. Any experts want to weigh in?
