It's a $10,000 ask (50% of the XLs price) to go from barebones (XL) to fully optioned (Lariat Lux) between hybrid Mavericks.

I've seen plenty of threads asking for advice between upgrading from XL to XLT, or XLT to Lariat, or XLT Lux versus Lariat non-Lux. In these cases, what is being asked is very specifically "should I spend $2k or $3k more for XXX features?"

But when you look at the price extremes - are you getting 50% more truck, or twice the comfort/enjoyment/usability for 50% more cost?

I would have bought an XL but it had no cruise control. The XLT had that orange trim color which I just could not stand. So I went with a Lariat. I am happy with it. It was more fun to pick out the truck color. I am not wowed by heated seats, etc, that they throw in to get your money. I know how I use my vehicles and know what is important to me.

I'd still get an XL. Don't need to pay extra and won't give me extreme buyer remorse if something gone wrong.

Is it worth 50% more...not really. But you have to ask yourself what options you need/want in your new vehicle and how long you're going to keep it.

I'm getting a Lariat w/Lux Pkg that I plan to own for 10+ years so I'm willing to pay for the upgrades. Plus I'm nearing retirement so I feel the additional interior upgrades and safety/driving features could be useful now, and extremely useful in the future when my driving facilties may diminish slightly...that's a harsh reality I have decided to include in my current purchase.

The XL is an absolute bargain if you're satisfied with the features. We all have different needs, wants...and especially varied budgets for a vehicle.

Update: Plus a loaded Lariat Hybrid is relatively inexpensive ($30~32K before taxes, etc) in comparison to many other new vehicles. I've read the average cost of a new vehicle is approaching $50k.

You don't get a better truck but one with more options. Like other buyers a XL just didn't have the options I wanted like cruise. If they did a STX model like the Ranger or F150 I probably would of went with that option. I ended up with a Lariat which I like but could of been just as happy with a XLT but a XL was a non starter for me.

I went Lariat Lux, FX4, 4K Tow & Moonroof. Nearly twice the bare LX. 8,000 miles and loving the Mav. No regrets. It's a long term keeper.

The *value* proposition always fades the higher up the option list you go.

Just comes down to personal preferences & finances.

I would have ordered an XLT if adding cruise control via forscan isn’t an option. This is why I opted for the XL which I can add cruise control later if I wanted to. It’s a good price point for me and that’s the main thing. I’m jealous of you guys with lariat and XLT lux but at the end of the day I just can’t see myself spending more than 23k for this truck.

At this point in my life there are certain options I want in any vehicle, so I really don't consider stripped down trim levels. For me, the XL Maverick's low base price is irrelevant and "artificially low" because it's even more bare bones than base trim of other vehicles. (Now if I was a business owner shopping for a fleet of trucks I'd view it differently.) What's relevant to me is how the price of my Lariat compares with other vehicles optioned similarly.

Same reason my present car, a RAV4, was purchased
as the XLE model and not the bare bones LE.

I want the Lariat with 360 and Luxury packages.

It's my children's inheritance money that I'm spending, so what the hell do I care???

Same here - When u look at all the Lariat/Lux goodies as a whole it's impressive. Yeah Ford should have probably added more ala cart options but the little things like powered rear slider, Ambient/LED lighting were all must haves for me. Was happy to part with the funds needed to get all the features we wanted @ under 36k - XL hybrid with 360+hitch is the value leader by far - It's nice to have these choices to make

I originally planned to get a base AWD XL but ended up with a refused XLT/Lux from the dealer lot. I agree with a previous poster that the value proposition resides in price comparisons between comparably equipped competing brands rather than lower Maverick trim levels. For the extra $8K from the XL AWD, I got cruise control, power everything, heated seats and steering wheel, moonroof, CoPilot360, etc.

All of that makes this a more enjoyable daily driver. Plus, I'm retired now and keeping my vehicles longer than I used to. I've had my 2014 Wrangler Rubicon for 6 years now, which is unheard of for me. Having the Maverick as well means both vehicles will be around for a good long time, so I might as well have a bit of luxury along the way.

I have priced other options from Ford, Toyota, Honda etc. i was pricing the XLT model my wife and I went to the Dealer and they had a Lariat Lux with Copilot. The dealer also had a XLT and a fleet truck. We were able to inspect all three. In my opinion the Lariat fully dressed is the best bang for the buck. I keep my cars until the wheels fall off. I would hope with proper maintenance the Mav should be good for 200,000 miles. By the way my wife made the final decision on the Lariat. I will be signing up as soon as the 2023 order book opens up. On any other car or truck you get to the high 30’s to mid 40’s for the same features.

What are you really getting in the Lux package that you can't get spec'd otherwise. You get the adaptive cruise control, lane centering and evasive steer assist. heated seats, mirrors and steering wheel, 660 watt 8 speaker system instead of a 6 speaker system, 8inch radio screen instead of 6 inch, Sync 3 w/SiriusXM (that includes the radial antenna), rear parking sensors, deicing wipers, electric brake booster and few other minor items.

Assuming your already determined you want a Lariat the only question is are all those items worth $3750?

Now if you are undecided. The first question is do you want cruise control and power mirrors. If you do then it comes down to is that worth 3k to jump to the next trim let alone a Lariat trim. Short answer is no. You can get power mirrors with the copilot360 package and cruise control can be added as a DIY option for around $200 for steering wheel switches, forscan software and license and programming cable. If you want anything else like different rims and tires, moon roof, etc. then you are into another trim level same with FX4 package though minus the tow hooks, 6 inch cluster screen and a.t.m. hill descent control though that should should be doable if the sensors are installed you should be able to DIY that including drive modes with forscan for about $800 vs. 3k to jump up to the next trim level.

My opinion is you get value to go up in the overall parts they include but not in the features since none of these are things you can live without. If you want a single feature a few of these have already been diy'd like cruise control, adaptive cruise w/lane centering and evasive steer adding FX4 drive modes and vice versa adding drive modes to the FX4 package that are not included. They can all be done for under 1k right now. Add in the Sync 3/4 mod around 1k - 1.5k.

Me personally I bought an XL ecoboost and AWD with the 4k tow. I would have liked the Copilot 360 but the build was a dealer allocated one, they had the VIN but no buyer at the time and they told me this is what you get and no changes to the order.

Just depends on what you’re using it for. If it’s a long commute or frequent road tripper, I’m sure the tech is nice to have. I drive round trip about 10 miles a day in a small town so XL was plenty enough comfort/options for me. For others, it’s a calf cramper.
Being in the top trim level of any small truck or SUV at 37k is still a competitive price point today. Even bare bones Frontiers/Tacomas/Rangers/Colorados are tough to find in that budget in this market.
