What are you really getting in the Lux package that you can't get spec'd otherwise. You get the adaptive cruise control, lane centering and evasive steer assist. heated seats, mirrors and steering wheel, 660 watt 8 speaker system instead of a 6 speaker system, 8inch radio screen instead of 6 inch, Sync 3 w/SiriusXM (that includes the radial antenna), rear parking sensors, deicing wipers and few other minor items.

Assuming your already determined you want a Lariat the only question is are all those items worth $3750?
The XLT Lux has the heated seats and steering wheel. All Mavericks have an 8" radio display standard.

Heated seats and steering wheel are specific to the LUX package on the Lariat trim. I didn't know it was available on an XLT. MY bad on the screen I thought they came with a larger screen.

XLT Lux definitely comes with heated seats and steering wheel. Those are not exclusive to Lariat Lux.

I'd go with the Lariat Lux again in a heartbeat. Well worth the 10K extra for me.

FYI the F150 XL to Lariat is $18k more($31k vs Lariat $49k.)

One other note is resale so you will get some return if you spend more on options.
For me it really isn't a money issue since a comparable full size truck is twice the price and I don't want a big truck anymore.

Main reason I hope not have to drop to XL but ugly steel wheels and no cruise. I would install the factory cruise though I cant live without it.

(Factory cruise install on youtube Its easy.)

It's a $10,000 ask (50% of the XLs price) to go from barebones (XL) to fully optioned (Lariat Lux) between hybrid Mavericks.

I've seen plenty of threads asking for advice between upgrading from XL to XLT, or XLT to Lariat, or XLT Lux versus Lariat non-Lux. In these cases, what is being asked is very specifically "should I spend $2k or $3k more for XXX features?"

But when you look at the price extremes - are you getting 50% more truck, or twice the comfort/enjoyment/usability for 50% more cost?
Great question to get us thinking a bit. Obviously some of us who purchased the XL looked carefully at the difference. Yes, I like comfort features and I enjoy tech—at 75 years old I've always adopted the newest technology. But, there is a point where the extra money is not worth it.

For what I've added to my XL and coming added features, I could have purchased the Lariat. Since we are down to a one vehicle family in retirement, I included my wife in our decision. We both did not care for the light color XLT interior and it did not have enough features to justify the extra cost, although it was close. My wife couldn't stand the Lariat's interior, but I did like the almost saddle leather look and I love brown/tan with the Velocity Blue. I would have purchased a base Lariat and only added the hitch, spray in liner, tonneau cover, bug/hood protector, and 120V outlet. I ran the numbers a bunch of times but the cost difference for the brown leather look interior wasn't worth it.

We chose the XL because of the interior. Coming of age in the 60's when the black interiors were the cool choice influences our choices. I had a metallic blue '66 427/425 Vette with a dark navy/midnight blue leather interior. I loved it. At some point we are going to put in a dark blue leather interior (Katzkin?) with some light stitching and purchase XLT switches to enable cruise. And when the sound system is updated, then we'll be through changing the truck.

Yes, I know we could have purchased a base Lariat for the price of what we are going to spend on our XL. When we finish with our XL upgrades, we will have the features and the truck we want. Nothing else matters too much.

At my age, I know what I want in a little truck and I'm thankful that Ford introduced the Maverick. It's a great little truck for our purposes; hauling some antiques, picking up yard supplies, hauling brush & limbs to the burn pile, and taking the trash to the dump. It's small enough that I can comfortably load the bed and It fits our lifestyle perfectly. Shoot even the steel wheels are growing on me.

It's not a matter of it being worth 50% more. That's a great way for one to talk themself out of something, I have used that argument at times as well.

As has been stated, there is always diminishing returns as you go up the price points. You get a lot better fishing rod outfit when you go from a $50 set to a $200 set. Your benefits drop significantly when you go from $200 to $450, and same for $800.

That's not to say that the $450 or $800 sets aren't worth it. All of those rod outfits will catch fish. I go with the $200 outfit because it gives me what I am looking for at a price I can pallet. Others have reasons for the higher end, that's up to them.

It's about comparison to the competition for the features you want. I have a certain set of criteria I absolutely will get. Then there's a set of things I'd like. The Maverick Lariat Lux FX4/Tremor checks off these boxes at a very competitive price vs the competition. Is it 75% better than a XL? To me it is because it has what I am looking for at a strong price vs relevant competition.

This dilemma is playing out with Honda/Acura as well regarding the Civic Si and the Integra. Similar story. Same engine and powertrain. Integra costs about $9,000 more but has a boatload of luxury bits the Si does not - from power seats to adaptive dampers and a ton more.

We chose the Integra for the same reason we chose the Lariat Lux. All of the extras added together in an itemized list might not equal the cash. But then you have to live with it every day. I want the nicer stuff.

I have priced other options from Ford, Toyota, Honda etc. i was pricing the XLT model my wife and I went to the Dealer and they had a Lariat Lux with Copilot. The dealer also had a XLT and a fleet truck. We were able to inspect all three. In my opinion the Lariat fully dressed is the best bang for the buck. I keep my cars until the wheels fall off. I would hope with proper maintenance the Mav should be good for 200,000 miles. By the way my wife made the final decision on the Lariat. I will be signing up as soon as the 2023 order book opens up. On any other car or truck you get to the high 30’s to mid 40’s for the same features.
Just. To update my ownership status. My local dealer received a fully loaded Lariat with 4 wheel drive, luv pkg and towing in dark blue. Well the rest is history the MavErick will be in my garage after 3 today. I test drove it and at my age (77) all the additional safety features will be good for me. Between the towing and 4 wheel drive there are some nice additional features and others I will never use. One I did all the off road stuff in 1966 to 1968 so I have never felt the need to repeat the fun. I will not be pulling a camper because my wife feels Holiday Inn is a better choice. For the older members of the maverick community I owned A Ford Courier in the 70’s it was a great little truck I hope the new Maverick will be as good. I will post photos later

For me, it's a question of not removing features that I had in my last vehicle, which was a Ford Fusion Hybrid SE w/luxury package. I had heated seats and mirrors, push button start with intelligent access, power everything, heated wipers, moonroof, rear sensor, and leather seats. On a 2016 model. When I looked at the base XL, it had none of those. Sure, it was MUCH cheaper (sticker on the Fusion was $32k, I believe), but replacing my old car with a new truck that was stripped down seemed like a huge regression.

Heated seats and mirrors were essential for me as were the intelligent access and push button start because I've become accustomed to never touching my keys -- we have a keypad for the front door, so I literally never use a key anymore, except for the shed in the backyard.

So, it wasn't, "Is the extra money over the XL price worth it?" It was, "I want these features -- which model is that?" The answer was the Lariat with the lux package, and I am VERY happy with my vehicle. Since I have the hybrid, the only main features I didn't get were the moonroof, FX4, and 1st Edition, none of which appealed to me. I think I used the moonroof in my Fusion about once a year, and I basically worried about skin cancer on my bald head each time I did! :D
