I have the '22 Mav XLT with the lux package. The power seat is for all practical purposes a 4-way power seat: forward & back and up & down . . There is no adjustable tilt. When you adjust up & down the seat pulls you closer to the steering wheel on the up motion and away on the downward motion. NOT an 8 way seat!

New Lariat/Hybrid, seat is fine, much better than the passenger seat :)
Lumbar works, lots of positions possible (get your mind out of the gutter )

The plastic seats are awful and the 8 way seat should be called 7 way at best because it does not allow the driver to tilt it forward thereby lessening the pressure on one’s legs.
That would be a 10 way.
8-way is accurate. Seat rails Forward/back, seat up/down, lumbar in/out, and seat angle forward/back.

I must be built differently, I have no problems with the seat and I drive a 454 mile OW trip every 2-3 weeks.

If the seat can’t be tilted forward then that would be 7 not 8.
Up/down from the rear motor counts as two ways. If the forward tilted up down as well as the rear up down, that would be a 10-way seat. Can't have a 7-way seat. That would imply that one motion can only be adjusted in one direction and never reversed.

The power seat does not pivot up/down meaning the height adjust is fixed at the front and only the rear lifts up as others have stated.

I personally fit in Fords well so this isn't a deal breaker for me, but on longer road trips I would love to be able to completely flatten the bottom of the seat, or even take the front lower than the rear to relieve some pressure on my hamstrings. Wife's odyssey does this wonderfully well. However - again I fit in Fords well so this doesn't affect me much.

Try sitting in the new Chevrolet Colorado and you'll come sprinting back to the Maverick hat in hand pleading for its comfort.

Nope. That's why it's 8-way and not 10-way. You're missing ways 9 & 10.

  1. Up
  2. Down
  3. Forward
  4. Backward
  5. Seat back tilt forward
  6. Seat back tilt backward
  7. Lumbar in
  8. Lumbar out
  9. Seat base tilt forward
  10. Seat base tilt backward

The lack of an independently adjustable cushion, even in the highest trim, is a massive failure. My legs go numb after 2-3 hours.

It was such a basic feature in my mind that I didn't even check for it.

I, personally, haven't had an issue with the adjustability of the seat, but I do wish the headrest was tilt adjustable in my XLT Lux. I regularly wear a wide brim hat, and the back of the brim rubbing against the headrest causes me to hunch forward a bit. I either have to take the hat off, or tilt it back like an '80s chick. Even at the head rest's highest latching position it interferes with my hat brim.

I know I'm going to regret wading into this, but 9&10 aren't missing, they're just linked to 1 & 2. It would be better if they actually were missing and the seat base angle did not move.

Pulling up on the control raises the whole seat at the same time it changes the seat angle, pitching the seat base forward.

Pushing down lowers the whole seat and pitches the seat base backward.

In the middle range of height adjustment it's comfortable. At the bottom, which I favor in almost all vehicles, it's very uncomfortable because the cushion is very uneven with the front raised, causing the leg comfort and circulation issues.

I have plenty of headroom so I gave up and raised my seat until the seat base was comfortable and then learned to live with the height.

I find the seats to be extremely comfortable, and so does my wife. We've been on several long trips in the last eighteen months or so, and have had no issues. As for the power adjustments, they were a breeze to set, and I found my sweet spot in moments. My wife likes it like I have it set, so we never have to change it.
For the record, I am 5'7", 160 Lbs.

Very good explanation.
