150 miles @ 75 mph, 29 mpg. No bueno.

Out of a vehicle rated for 33 mpg highway when you're driving less efficiently than required for that rating (e.g. 75 mph, to know nothing else of your driving habits)?

What logical basis would you have for that expectation?

Do you also expect unicorns and pixie dust?

Just got a 22 sonata hybrid and averaging 50mpg combination city, highway and backroads. This car loves doing 65. Dash says 51.5mpg average, after 1000 miles I calculate 52mpg. Once my mav arrives both of our vehicles will be hybrids.

We live near Austin and go towards Corpus nearly every two weeks. You are almost always driving into a very stiff headwind going down that way. That will always kill your mpg.

We’re seeing similar results. Low to mid 40s around town, an occasional high 40 to 50 on a short, easy trip. Then mid to upper 30s on the highway. Can’t say we’ve driven long distances at high speed so haven’t seen how low it will go.

Overall very satisfied with the MPG. And for those saying drive 60 instead of 65, we have 80 MPH speed limits in some areas here. If you drive 60 you’re going to get run over.

Agreed. We have 70 speed limits here, but less than 80 means you're in the way and 60 would be dangerous. I am not going to drive slower - either way the hybrid is going to be more fuel efficient than the EB.

The power required to overcome aero drag is a function of the velocity cubed. Twice the velocity requires eight times the power.

If you're gonna run a lot at 75-80 I'd recommend you have a bed cover. That small percentage savings goes way up the higher the speed you get.

As you very well know, the winds these last two months or so have really been howling from that direction. Of course, your mpg benefit when you turn around and head back north with the wind chasing you

Drag increases exponentially with an increase in velocity, not linearly.

So that's one possibility.

I think I got around 35mpg going 70-80mph for about 40 minutes on the highway plus 15 minutes in the city when I first got the car. Since then I go around average around 65mph and get 40-45mpg depending on traffic

After getting 45 and 41 mpg in city driving, a recent trip to corpus cristi at 75 mph yielded 29 mpg.

I expected at least 35. Anyone else see something similar?

35-40 mpg on the hi-way is doable at 65mph except in severe head/side winds. I got 29mpg doing 65mph into a severe headwind on a 20 mile trip. On the way there I got 44mpg . It all balances out.

Drove from Philly to Frisco, TX. 1500 miles. Got 33 mpg just like the truck said it would. Any more is a bonus. Since I have been home I have gotten 45 mpg in the city, more than expected.
