After getting 45 and 41 mpg in city driving, a recent trip to corpus cristi at 75 mph yielded 29 mpg.

I expected at least 35. Anyone else see something similar?

Hybrids get much higher MPG in city then hiway. 75 MPH lowers your MPG. Sounds pretty normal. Not enough details in your post to offer more analysis.

I ran in to the same. On a day trip at 85mph I only got 28mpg. Did a test on a 5 mile stretch out side my home, at 80+ 28mpg at 70 32mpg and at 60 36-38 mpg. Hybrids are made for in town low speed stop and go traffic not highway driving. That said I am very happy with mine. Name another truck that gets better than 30mpg 99% of the time. ATM I'm about to hit 4000 miles and total mpg is 37. This is on a 40% rural, 40% highway, 20% town driving.

Google or see other threads that describe the fact that energy spent to move against air does not increase linearly as speed increases. And as mentioned above, there is also relative wind speed and air density to account for.

You need to research aerodynamic drag and how much that increases with even small increases in speed.

That said, I'm not bashing you. My commute regularly has me at 80mph. It is what it is. I'd take 28-29mpg in those circumstances.

On your next 2 trips try 150 miles at 80 mph, then 150 miles at 70 mph.
Then report your findings.
Thank you.

Go 60 instead... You'll get at least 5 more mpg

Out of a vehicle rated for 33 mpg highway when you're driving less efficiently than required for that rating (e.g. 75 mph, to know nothing else of your driving habits)?

What logical basis would you have for that expectation?

Do you also expect unicorns and pixie dust?

I saw this post before any comments. I knew it would go to hell in a hand basket real quick. Hahaha.
