87 octane here. Tried premium once with no increase at all. As far as using premium when it’s “hot”, what does that mean? I know people who call 80 F “hot”. Where I live 110 F and above is hot, 100 to 105 F are actually nice summer temps out here.

I am only getting like 18-19mpg. Am I just gunning it too much? Or maybe just too much city driving...
Are you using your different drive modes? On long drives I always set mine to Eco. Just remember that every time you turn the truck off, it resets to the default Normal mode.

I’ve gotten down in the sub-20s mpg a couple times, but I had my foot into it, was going uphill with a serious headwind.

Oh, so eco mode makes that much of a difference? Ok, I'll make sure to use it more often then. Thanks!

Since I plan on tuning my Mav, if I ever get it, I will do the same as my tuned F150......87 octane through the winter months, on the 87 octane tow tune, then 93 all other times, on the 93 octane tow tune, or perf. tune when I want to play. 👹

Just curious how many EB Maverick owners are filling up with premium vs regular.

If you've tested the differences in fuel mileage or power, what are your results?

I've been using regular because of the price of fuel (~$4/gal around here) and I mostly commute on the highway.
I did run a few tanks of premium within the first 1500 miles, but I didn't notice a change in fuel mileage or power.
Getting about 25mpg average with 80% hwy at 75mph.
I don't have my EB yet but will run 87 as boosted engines have lower compression ratios than normally aspirated engines. I have always (the last 30 years), run 87 in every car that called for premium (Mercedes Benz and Smart cars) putting over a hundred thousand miles with absolutely zero issues in engine wear or performance. I am a factory trained MB tech, a licensed aircraft mechanic and retired from building GE locomotive diesel engines. Take it for what it is worth to you, but I am buying a Maverick to save money so it makes no sense ( to me) to spend extra on fuel or I would buy a bigger truck and run regular gas as well.

Is gas with ethanol an issue? Yes. I run ethanol free in everything.
Why are you running ethanol free in your Maverick?

I run straight 87 in mine. My mpg was really good today when I filled up and I now been crossing the state line into Georgia since they suspended the gas tax.

I'm not saying you're wrong because clearly Ford designed this engine to run on 87, but I would like to point out that a turbo charged engine is lower in compression because you're going to artificially raise the air pressure above atmosphere. I'm doing so, increase the pressure in your cylinder.

Experience means more to me than opinions. Even of engineers. I have worked with enough of them to know that a college degree isn't all that is needed to be successful. On a Continental aircraft engine designed to run on 80/87 octane avgas, it actually experienced fewer issues than running it on 100 octane low led fuel that is all that is available now. And all the FAA people said it would be better for the engine. Talk is cheap.

Most turbo charged engines work better with 91 octane, however before I ordered my XLT ecoboost, Ford info stated this engine/turbo was designed for 87 octane.
I have gone 5,000 miles
combo, average MPG is 29.5. No towing.

If I take your high MPG numbers and "do the math" it still comes out cheaper to run 87 octane over 93 octane. Are there other benefits to higher octane other than better MPG and horsepower/torque (performance)? Does the engine run that much better to justify the additional $4.71? It isn't a lot, as you say, but you can use 87 octane and buy more beer at the bar with the savings!

Some just like to run premium and a good friend of mine swears by it. It doesn't keep your engine cleaner. The detergents/additives in the gas do that. It does prevent knocking if that is an issue. Cars that require premium can't really get by without it. Cars that don't require it, like the Mav, get no tangible benefit using it even when MPG is better as the gained MPG is offset by the cost.
I use 87 and after turning 4,000 miles it started getting 28/29 mpg on a trip. My overall average is
25.5 combined.
