I always use ECO drive mode in my Hybrid Maverick.

The more aggressive regen braking in ECO mode when your foot comes off the accelerator pedal slows down the Maverick much faster than when using the Normal drive mode so applying the actual brake pedal is only done at low speeds near where the actual stop needs to occur.

In ECO mode applying the brake pedal only engages more aggressive regen braking to come to a complete stop (unless you stomp on the brake pedal). If you get the 100% brake report no actual physical brakes were applied in stopping.

By doing the above I have never experienced "grabbing and/or rough engagement" braking with or without the ICE engine running.

One of the benefits of the Hybrid Maverick is getting much better brake life as the actual physical brakes are rarely used especially in ECO drive mode.

Excellent advice. I haven't used eco mode much, mostly because my old car was such a gas hog that the worst the Mav can do is amazing by comparison. Wasn't gonna split hairs over a mile or two per gallon. However, I tried it on the way home this afternoon, and the (admittedly minor) uneven braking disappeared. Still plenty peppy, so I intend to stick with it. Thanks!

I’ve found the brake “grab” still sometimes happens at end of braking burn on ECO, on my end at least 🤷‍♀️

Well it was only one trip home from work, so it might have been a coincidence. It is intermittent after all. I'll keep an eye on it.

Has anyone had any luck with these problems? I have a Hybrid XLT and I have about 4500 miles on it and seem to have the same problems.

I described to the the dealer that it either lurches forward at a stop, or I have to depress the pedals further on the secondary brake attempt (like inching forward in traffic). When I tried to have the dealer look into it, they can’t find an issue at all with the brake system.

The point of this vehicle for me is to get great gas, yet it feels like my Maverick makes me slam on my brakes just to come to a stop at less than 10 miles an hour.

Write to Ford at the link on the side with their logo. I have the same problem and they got right on it, found a dealer where the service department answered the phone (unlike Scarsdale Ford), and even made me an appointment. Of course it's not until April 11 but I don't think it's a dangerous condition that demands immediate attention. There are some comments here by some people who sound like they know what they're talking about, read what they have to say. And watch it in the rain. Pumping the brakes when wet helped but didn't eliminate the jolting altogether. I've got 2K miles on mine and I haven't rear ended anyone yet, so there.
Good luck,
Randall

I have about 4000km on my hybrid, like you mentioned, I still can't fully adapt to its brake pressure curve, at low speed or not.
It feels like - regen, regen, regen...bang! physical brake!

I've driven many Hybrid cars as I used to be a valet driver part time. The Maverick doesn't seem to be any worse than a Prius as far as regen brake engagement in addition to hydraulic braking.

When you lightly tap on the brakes at a slow speed, it is normal for it to stick and feel like it's grabbing on at first. That's just how all Hybrids/EVs are (Except Tesla, they have the best braking feel.)

In fact, newer naturally aspirated Volkswagen Jettas/Passats have the worst "brake stick" out of any car. I can't count how many times I drove a Jetta up to a customer and right when I came to a stop, the car abruptly braked at the last minute.

What seems a little strange though is when you are going about 40mph, see a red light up ahead, and begin braking, it brakes normally but right when you are about to stop going less than 3mph, it feels like the regen disengages and then you have to press on the brake pedal a little harder at that point to get it to stop.

Well it's been a week now and I can say that in my case at least, using "Eco" mode has completely eliminated the uneven braking issue. Smooth as glass all the way to a stop. Perhaps that indicates it is a simple adjustment issue for most. I hope so, because it would be nice to be able to use "normal" mode...and get normal braking along with it.

I have the XLT and have noticed similar braking quarks. I think it is just the way the system works and takes time to adjust to. In my case, I've come to realize that say if you are stopped and want to move forward a little, to not totally release the brake pedal. Just back off a little and the system is smooth and behaves as expected. But if you totally release the pedal and then reengage it, the system is suddenly soft and becomes grabby at some point.

That's because Tesla doesn't do blended braking. If you're touching the brake pedal, you're using hydraulics. In the house of Tesla, one-pedal driving is king and you're Wrong if you don't want it.

Guys I can confirm and agree that putting the mode into ECO solves the issue if engine grabbed at low speed. I think the jolt is still there, but it doesn’t make that noise anymore. I will keep y’all updated if anything changes, but I think this is the key, ECO.

One time at a stop I felt the Maverick trying to lurch forward. Like in a pulsing form, a little shoulder shove every second or so. Only happened once so far.

3 days and my grabbyness went away
2 Months 2k miles and still there occasionally, I think it just requires training and maybe a software update recall is in order to fix the transition from regen braking to hydraulic.. In my experience pushing the brakes a lil' harder at the last 5-3MPH resolved the issue
