In all honesty, if my care dies before I take my Hybrid Mav delivery, I will have to take a long hard look at the Maverick AWD and Santa Cruz SEL AWD.

Looks good, the interior looks possibly slightly better than the Maverick, as far as materials are concerned.

Nice review. Thanks.

I'm wondering about the composite bed. Every once in a while I will use this thing (or the Maverick) as a truck. If I'm hauling something like pieces of heavy tree limbs to the dump for chipping, could they dent or even poke through the bed liner, since the bed isn't steel?

...and I just watched the review... if I don't get scheduled some time over the next couple of months and I can get a limited off the lot for 2-3k under msrp (lol ya right) that might be all she wrote for my dreams of maverick ownership. In that respect I selfishly hope many people wait for maverick so hyundai starts discounting these lol. But damn them for having no buttons on their infotainment. That is possibly a bigger sin than no split flip up rear seat back in Mav.

Overall I'm just so glad there's competition in this segment

Interesting. Is the SEL model comparable to the Lariat trim level? I wonder what the price difference is.

I agree with others; only hang up for me is the styling, which I really don't care for. In terms of its apparent capabilities and features, though, I'm really impressed!

I'll be honest, it would be 100% ok with me if a handful of you guys higher up on the order list here decided to go the Hyundai route instead...haha

I just haven't been impressed with Hyundai reliability lately. Then the wife's Nissan spent two months in the shop and enterprise gave us hyundais. Two went back with issues.

The SC SE with AWD, and activity pakage (retractible tonneau, technology, and bed add-ins similar to Lux) is about $200 more than an XLT Lux 4k hard tonneau Mav. I think these two are roughly equivalent.

At this price point, it would be a tough decision. The Maverick will probably give you better performance, but the Santa Cruz has the better safety features, technology, and warranty. In terns of bring an urban pickup, I figure both yield similar utility.

This is all speculation as I've seen/driven neither, and the Santa Cruz is big mystery in terms of specifics.

I don't care for the looks of the Santa Cruz and the bed is 6 inches shorter and cannot handle 4 x 8 sheets of plywood like the Maverick. No brainer for me...Go Maverick!

Yeah, there's a real information lag with the Santa Cruz. For me styling is killing the SC, I wanted a truck and Maverick looks like a truck. I do like that SC along with any other manufactures that come out with a small pickup will continue to push Ford to improve the Maverick over time.

I’ve looked at all that’s available on both the Maverick and the Santa Cruz. I’m leaning more towards the Santa Cruz now for several reasons. A top shelf Maverick and a top shelf Santa Cruz are very close in price. The Santa Cruz is built in Alabama, the Maverick in Mexico. The Santa Cruz Limited has cooled seats, not available on Maverick. Maverick has more color choices and a slightly longer bed. The Cruz has a trunk under the bed. Hyundai is now shipping retail versions to dealers available for sale. My local dealer is taking $1,000 refundable deposits that would give me dibs on the next one that comes in. I am placing an order with Hyundai and will buy the first one, Maverick or Santa Cruz that shows up.

Man, I wish we could combine the Mav's exterior with the Santa Cruz's interior. I'd be sold.
