To some the novelty wears off, to others, they cherish their purchase for a long time regardless of 'dings or scratches' I wouldn't group everyone into your thought process just because it's a utilitarian tool. Tools can be cherished and appreciated for a long time.
I'm sure those who buy Bentley's and Rolls Royce's don't think like you, and certainly don't let dents happen as quickly as you. There are some that will treat their Maverick like their 'Bentleys'...I'm sure I will make sure it stays as pristine as new for as long as possible so I won't loose that initial feeling.
I remember my mother feather dusting her new 1968 Cadillac Eldorado every day in between washes. She loved that car and did that every day until she died. She took care of pretty much everything after losing everything during WWII. I guess I learned it from her and appreciate what I have so I make an effort to keep things nice.

You NEVER did the gross-out dares as a kid and eaten a Milk Bone? LOL!
I've been eating Milk Bones since meat prices went out of this world. What's your point? Please don't tell me there's a Milk Bone price increase.

Not if you buy a Miata. The joy never dims. I should know. I owned three. More smiles per mile than any other car in creation. While all the drivers around you are posing for each other in their overweight, overpowered, super-macho ego trips, you'll be having actual fun.
I wish I could comfortably (key factor!!) fit into one of those and KNOW that I would be comfortable over a long-distance drive! I have always wanted one of those! 6' 1" 235

I try to take care of my cars but eventually they all get nicks and scratches. But I've never owned a collector vehicle and by the time I am done with them sell them for whatever I can get, usually around $2K. I imagine the Maverick will be the same.

Which brings me to my main point here. I'm getting the Maverick mostly to haul my mountain bike around. I plan on getting the tailgate skirt and just put the front wheel over the tailgate. People say it will scratch it up. But will I care in 5 years? Can't be too hard to have it repainted either right?

A friend of mine suggests when you get a new vehicle home, just turn a few kids loose in the back seat with a box of markers. It cures that new vehicle anxiety right away and you can get back to business.
I had a friend years ago tell me that when he buys a new vehicle he gets his hammer out and taps it on the side of the new car - so that he can get over the anxiety etc. I won't do that...

Maybe there is some psychology to that. "If there is going to be a dent, it's coming from me, not some stranger."

OCD when it comes to vehicles. It never wears off.
Yep - totally agree! It's the one time I appreciate my OCD!! There's no reason a car cannot look new every day if you decide to put a little time into it...

Or there's another thought - guys will come right out to your house and for $200-$300 fix that dent like it never existed - just sayin...

I'm sure I did and it must've traumatized me because I developed a keen eye for foods I just "knew" I wouldn't like! 😁 To this day my friends still call me a picky eater! I say, no I just know what I like and don't like!😋 🤣

There's a thread or part of a thread where folks discussed which tailgate skirt was best at not scratching the tailgate. Unfortunately I can't remember which thread that came in. 😕

With our primary vehicles I am very much like this, OCD. With this being a third vehicle I plan on beating the crap out of it and not giving a shit. I will probably try and get it airborne a few times. My Fusion has taken a beating and it has held up impressively well. Fords are tanks.
